doubt the original devs imagined a server where one guild took all players and mobs all the while avoiding AoEs by exploiting the buff stacking mechanics for months.

You literally just described Everquest for as long as I played it on live. In fact, there are even screenshots of Fires of Heaven doing that "exploit" in front of Verant GMs.
