I have a 5 year old. I've never spanked him. I would if I felt I needed to. It happened to me about a half dozen times in my childhood. Upon taking a personal inventory when I was older, I realized each time it happened to me, I was deserving of it and I was the one who took it to that point, past other punishments and failed incentives. Spanking is not abuse and all you do when you say it is, is look stupid and dilute actual abuse.

Physical punishment during childhood is linked to anxiety disorders, aggression, and a host of negative emotions. Don't be stupid like your parents were. There are cultures where physical punishment is unheard of and those cultures display superior indices in relation to happiness and emotional security. Parents who physically punish their children are emotionally weak/ uninformed and only teach their children to fear the world around them.
