Perhaps I need to make a clean install?

Yes, try a clean install. Keep your old files in a folder of a different name (in the offchance you need an old file)

After you do the fresh install do the new files and remove the ones they ask in the sticky. But going forward whenever new spell files are added you don't need to remove those specified zone files they ask just copy and replace files with the new ones.
