Actually,

"Though no credit card information was taken, the site said, attackers made off with usernames, e-mail addresses, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and encrypted password."

So actually the sensitive data was protected and only their other information leaked; Anyone using the internet should have used dummy information when spending large amounts through a wire service.

My wire service encrypts the data before it is sent out to the merchant prior to them receiving payment.

Anyone typing their mailing address, phone number and using a password that is linked to their email or other accounts, seriously needs to re-think how they conduct business on the internet.

We all have learned this lesson the hard way since the mid 2000's and do not expect anything to change, especially as the technology of every house hold item around us is being linked into this prism.
