I would hope, since they've got the gift of knowing it's coming, the devs coded in the necessary adjustments for class penalties long-long ago and just need to flip a setting. Whether it's just a true/false flag in the DB to distribute experience based on level while multiplying xp gained for those classes appropriately or if just by running a script that removes excess-experience from the afflicted characters & moves them over to a race-appropriate xp table.
