I do recall the "change" to Advanced D&D hitting sometime early in High School for me, that must have been about '80 or '81. Personally fond of the 2nd Ed. ruleset, myself; I enjoyed both 3rd Ed and 3.5 Ed., but gave up trying to keep up on the game after that point. On the occasions when I do sometimes still play with the "old gang" we use the 3.5 Ed as a base. Ran many a campaign as a DM, and played a Fighter & Druid as a part of a really epic campaign that took a group of us "nerd-buds" through the high school and college years - an common experience, no doubt [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] By the end of it all, we'd worked out a pretty involved set of "House Rules" that used the D&D rules as a base, incorporated the Arms Law/Claw Law/Spell Law ruleset from Iron Crown Enterprises, and then threw in a healthy dose of GURPS for flavor. Truth be told, over the years, I think I've come to favor GURPS over all, for flexibility/customization reasons. But, in truth, I haven't tabletopped regularly for at least the last 10 years.
