Ther was a quote rumbling around in the would you survive thread... about a man being someone who can stiche a wound, care for the sick and dieing, hunt, balance a checkbook, fix a car, fight a war, tend a garden, cook a tasty meal etc...
People in this country are so specialized and trained for their specific jobs they lack a broader perception of reality. Even college graduates fall into this category by majority.
Part of something I respect greatly about the military is it teaches you many general life skills. People are a fool to think the military itself is a bad thing. It's the reason we didn't fall into complete corruption and anarchy 100 years ago. It's a part of the reason America, while it didn't have a perfect run, had a decent 200 year run.
You will never attain perfection. The measure of a man/woman is how they deal with that imperfection. Slamming the military with a sledgehammer is the erroneous answer. Seeing it as black and white as hasbinbad does is short sighted.
