I was expecting to be sorely disappointed, but paying to play a buggy, shitty version of a game that will eventually be free? Yeah. That's 'tarded.
Honestly I can't imagine what an alpha even is nowadays. Only offline-only single-player games are released in a (mostly) playable state anymore. Anything that has a multiplayer component and especially MMOs seem like they're "released" in an early beta state at best.
