I started EDCing 1/4" thick hardened steel plates under my shirt. Over the years, it grew to include upper arm pauldrons and chain mail gauntlets. I wear an iron helm (it's not as noticeable as you'd think. From far away, an elderly person would probably mistake it for a football helmet and a Kevlar cape for rear protection.
