Game Mechanics: Defense skill wont raise!

I've had players beat on me let light blue mobs beat on me, and my defense refuses to raise I'm getting rocked by melee's. One of the two skills you can't raise at trainer, it should roll off my int but no matter how high I rais it my skill stays at pre 40 lvls. Don't know what to do this point. Never had this problem on live.

You don't say what class you are but you imply intelligence casters.


1) all necros, wizards ,enchanters, mages are capped defense of skill 145. that is level 29 max skill.

2) best way i have ever found to raise defensive skill is have 2 mobs light blue to blue beat on me for a bit. Always have defense skill go up when doing this.

3) Having a friendly shaman buff you AGiL also helps.

I dont know about duels, but it worked on live in arenas. Long ago, I had my friend park his char for a night in one, with autoattack on, so I could raise my defense and bind wound skills.
It worked perfectly.

You could raise melee skills by dueling someone and fighting their pet, but never fighting a PC. I remember fighting a friend's shaman pet for defense skill ups.
