It's worrying to read some of these posts I must say. Being new on this server and looking for that good old EQ experience this does not bode well.
I can't really understand why people that have what gear they can get would camp stuff to sell for MQ. What is the point of stockpiling plat? People with top of the line gear could help others level and gear up. It would encourage people to play. We had plenty of high levels camping items for twinks, but they joined groups like any other and helped the group while waiting for their turn to loot the item. No rolls, simply first come first serve in group. But then E'ci I guess was special in that regard. Not many severs hosted public raids for all the casual people and were able to actually kill stuff. So if what I read here is true, all sought after camps like in LGuk would be solo camped by a lvl 60 either for twinking or selling?

The two of us just started on the server this week, first time playing EQ since live (Velious) as a cleric/ war combo. I've read through this thread and it's the same complains as on live "back in the day". All the "good" items were camped 24/7 however usually by groups. From what I remember, the only good soloers were Druids and Necros. Now it seems to be über twinkled bards. Fully camped items is just sooo classic!
Pre-Velious, every dungeon you entered the first thing you did was yell "camp check" and then asked to be put on the list. That's how EQ always worked on live. Is it scaring away new players? Beats me but I'm a new player, have met quite a few other new players and everyone I've talked to seems to be having a lot of fun! Anyway, just my ramblings on a Sunday morning

I have a suggestion, come play on red so instead asking for a 'camp check' and talking it out with the person, you kill them and run them out. Then the camp is yours, simple.

My monk on live had a fungi, cof, epic, legs off AoW amongst other things and I never paid a single thing for it, Wasn't even until mid velious that I realized people actually were selling accounts and things for money.

No way in hell you are telling me that you were high enough in Kunark to go to L Guk and Seb with pick up groups to get a Fungi, Maybe a FBSS, lucky as hell roll, T staff in KC etc. And get your Epic. You were in a TOP END guild and played till your ass fell off. Or pulling my leg big time. Or have one hell of a bad memory. Not even mid Velious.

When new people routinely see the server like the OP describes, I'd say it's a problem. And judging by the regularity we see threads like this one started by disappointed newbs, it does seem to be the routine newb experience here. Kinda like starting EQ during PoP woulda been on live, and gee, PoP era is when the live population seemed to stagnate.

What server did you play on webrunner5?
On E'ci there was no problem doing regular group rotation on camp spots in LGuk or Seb. If a person left a new one on a list came down to replace as needed. There was the occasional group whipes and some groups were not as effective, but you didn't need a guild to get stuff that could be done with a group. I never did the bottom of Seb that much, but the few times I did it was with groups created at entrance with a friend or two. As I said in previous post, I think E'ci was a bit unique in that the average player were pretty good. The key for me and my guild was that everyone respected us. We were kind and helped people and got help in return if needed. No idea what rank Na Koa was, but not at the top, thats for sure. This made a big difference when I did my clerics epic quest. Believe I waited in line for Ragefire for about 2 months and camped him for almost a week with Nagafen popping up after 4 days. All gear I got on all my characters were all camped for fair and square. No random rolls. First come first serve was the common way iirc. Could take a week camping a single spot before I got even close to me being next in line for the item I wanted. And at that point you didn't leave until it dropped, even if it would take another 12+ hours. Took me around 24 hours or so camping jboots in Najena. Think I sold one TBB once, but that I got only cause no one in group needed so it was randomed off.
