I have Jboots on my bard. It helps a lot in situations where selos might run out or if I need to go into a dungeon.

First, even bards need instant clickies.

Secondly, what makes EQ great is that you can play how you want. All this BS about play how you want in modern and next gen MMOs...total nonsense. EQ had real freedom when it came to how you interacted with the world and community.

If you have a problem with someone camping the AC because you don't think they should then you are probably playing the wrong game.
Nice rationalizing, all of you. And you all know it's so much BS. He's there to sell the MQ and we all know it, along with the shaman with three corpses on the hill storing rings. You can't rationalize the greed that permeates this server. Everyone sees it every time they log in.

A group of a dozen of us stuck with a ranger in Frenzy earlier this week. The poor guy was there for nearly 48 hours (and never did get a sash). Why did we do this for someone we had never met? We all knew that the minute the camp was free it may be a month or more before anyone but a level 60 item camper could play there again. (one showed up every hour or so, one even commented on how 'old school' it was to see an actual group camping the frenzy.)

It harms the server, and it especially harms newcomers to P99. We started a guild with 10 or so new players almost three months ago, only three of us are left. All the rest left for this very reason. Anything of value is camped to a monopoly by bored, high-level players. Prices on what is sold on the market are not reflective of what a new player can possibly pay, it's what another high-level player will pay for their twinks. I recall buying a FBSS on live for less than 2k. It's six to eight times that amount here.

People will actively give you advice on how to deal with this. My favorite was: "You need to level up a druid first. Do ports and kite giants for money to outfit your real character." Really? I somehow missed that in my classic experience.

This server is effectively dead to most new players. The only way to equip a character is in EC, the only way to obtain the plat to buy it is to sell in EC.

Try leveling up a new warrior with LFG on. You aren't invited to groups, you get tells asking what weapons you have and how well you are twinked (yes both have happened to my 22 warrior). Then they decide if they want to ask you to a group (no both times). Can you imagine that happening on live EQ in 1999?

I'd like a pair of Efreeti Boots for my 46 enchanter. Do you think there is a chance in hell I can get an appropriate group together and actually fight for them? Nope, by your method of playing I should just kill 867 Hill Giants and buy them from a level 60. Not classic. Not as intended. Not fun.

I'll go out on a limb here without actually checking in game first. By my recollection my level 46 character is using exactly ONE item that was obtained directly from a mob (a braided cinch cord if you must ask). Everything else had to be purchased.

What was intended as a PvE adventure game has been turned into a PvP economic simulator.

I don't know. I started levelling with an Iksar Warrior around the low 30's and even with his heavy XP penalties he has outleveled me and is now 10 ahead of me. I don't neckbeard, but play almost every day as a Bard, so that shows you how possible it still is to get groups and XP if you try. He's still going hard in the 50's.

Also, the other side of the inflated economy on p99 is that players are also much more likely to give stuff away - especially if you join a guild. I was gifted with all my armor and some half-decent weapons by guildies, and total strangers have just handed me stuff I could use as well (or paid for ports for CRs etc.) I've since passed the gifts on to other lower levels, and its likely they will pass them on themselves.

So while the big stuff is as hard as it ever was to accomplish (epics etc. for those of us with difficult epics), the little stuff is made significantly easier.

As a new player on this server (started about a week ago), this is one of the things that frustrates me the most. I have been turned away from groups that were full of ridiculous twinks, only because of my gear. What about level 11 clerics and rogues with epics is even remotely "classic"?

This server is great for many reasons, but is nearly unplayable for new characters. I have personally witnessed three or four people quit within the first week because they felt that they would never be able to step foot into a raid zone such as PoF, PoH, etc..because of the elitist and selfish play that people on this server seem to have adopted. Fortunately, I have had a few players along the way help me out here and there with plat and gear, so I may be one of the lucky ones. Even then, it is severely disheartening to load up an EQemu server sporting a "CLASSIC" tag to see people MQ'ing epics left and right, level 3 clerics with fungis, etc. I guess I partially understand that the people that have been on this server since day 1 have all the reason (and plat) in the world to twink out whatever class they want, but it turns new people away from the game, very quickly. I hope you high level people twinking and plvl'ing in exp hot spots realize this (although I'm sure you don't give a shit).

I came to this server looking for the feeling I had when I loaded up Everquest back in 2000, and in a sense, I have found that. In another sense, this "classic" nonsense that is broadcasted in the server name and description leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This will probably go unread by 90% of people, but I would really like all of you "old school" and "uber" players to realize that completely new people are trying to join every day, and are being turned off nearly immediately when they zone into Crushbone and see a pile of Orcs standing under a level 7 rogue with a Ragebringer. Shit is just fucking ridiculous.

As of now, I love this server, but after being inspected before being invited to a group earlier today, I am severely contemplating continuing. This. Is. Not. Classic. EQ. Not even close.

I feel you man, but what do you want? Are the devs supposed to implement non-classic things in order to maintain the server's classic nature? That's immediately self-defeating.

Epics on level 7's was always possible on Live. Level 3's with Fungi's was totally classic - that's often what they were used for actually, PLing alts.

I don't know what the answer is for the endgame congestion, though. I haven't got there yet so it isn't affecting me directly. Velious is going to ease a lot of this, even if it results in the top guilds blowing through the content in months, getting bored, and retiring, leaving the server less stressed for the rest of us.

I know this, but I feel like the level on which it is used on this server is just out of hand. Yes, on live, you saw an incredible twink with an MQ'd epic, full Kunark gear, Fungi, etc..but no where near the level it is on here. You can literally go into any newbie zone and find at least 2-3 solo twinks that are just retardely geared.

Back in CLASSIC EQ, a twinked warrior meant full crafted with dual SSoY. Twinked on P99 is an entire different dimension. New players can't compete with that. I feel bad for my buddies that are playing tank classes and routinely looking for groups in their self-earned gear, because they are being turned away left and right. It's just not right man. Especially when it comes to tanks, people are so gear judgemental that it's sickening.

This is not everquest live, MQ is classic. You know the reason WHY people have such crazy good gear and a twink is full out? There are WAY LESS players then EQ servers used to have, Stop complaining and be happy. Shit is fine.

The things you are describing all happened on live back in the day...they also have nothing to do with MQing.

FBSS is a huge demand item that can be easily solo'd by many lvl60 classes, so it is always going to be camped. You need to get in line and wait very patiently or just get lucky. It was always the case on live in this era that your best bet to get your hands on one was to save the pp and buy one unless you were lucky enough to get the camp (and win the roll if you weren't solo'ing).

Camps are actually far easier to get on p1999 than they were on live in this era. Mostly due to us having about half what live servers had population wise on during peak times. Obviously, the most demanded items are still camped...but you will many many exp camps and item camps open constantly if you look just off the beaten the path.

You're stepping into a four year old behind the time-line classic server. It would be like rolling a new toon on live when everyone else was in planes of power gear.

Yes, it stinks having to play catch up when you want "the classic experience" but, 1) this is still closer than anything you can get anywhere else and 2) the only thing that would fix it for you is restarting the server (which wouldn't fix the issues you are describing for other new players when they stumble onto the server 4 years from now).
