It's not the multi-classing part that's the problem. Hybrid classes have basically always existed since the dawn of MMORPGs. It's the "You can switch to any class you want at anytime" part. That shit is GAY.
I don't want to be able to switch classes at any time I want. Make a unique hybrid? Yeah that would be cool, but if I just want to switch between classes I will make new characters to adventure with thank you.

Also I am at work so I wasn't able to watch absolutely everything (almost though), I didn't catch mention of open world dungeons or instances or the like, did they mention anything about that?

the most awful thing about multiclassing is someone is going to figure out the optimal class combinations and if you don't play that you basically suck at the game

swap classes on demand? no more bottlenecks on getting content done, making it more accessible to all

commie bullshit

sad sad day
That's not communist. That's the free market.

And if you actually listened, you would have learned that everybody cannot switch on demand. You have to earn the ability to get your classes.

The difference is EQ has distinct classes, when you allow everyone to be everything at once people just find the combination that is the most OP and play it.
Except that's a provably false statement.

"Would somebody rez the ranger" Unacceptable language.
I cringed at every self-conscious reference to a game so far removed from what they were showing as to make the allusions practically nonsensical.

I hear a lot of bemoaning about multi-classing and how it homogenizes the player-base but I wonder how many people play a ranger here on P99? Okay, now how many play a monk, instead?

See what I'm getting at? I mean, really.
I think you are inadvertently proving our point, ranger was the combo that went too far in the wrong direction and got left at the wayside till Luclin. Its another option to play with sure, but hardly anyone does because it is obviously not optimal, thus monks and everything else.

The other classes weren't like this because they had something (more or less) that they could excel at in a meaningful way in a variety of situations. Rangers got boned in that department.

Hrm, I posted in the dead thread in RnF.

"There are also no levels or in this game, although your character does still progress"

"Combat will consist of four skills and four weapon moves at a time."

http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/08...ext-explained/

Ok with the first, kinda eh on the second.

Yeah, hybrids are fine... but I think it's a better idea to have it developer created. Min/maxing will come into play otherwise and everyone will be using the same templates.

I remember when Asheron's Call first came out, no one had any idea what they were doing. They were just spreading their points all over the place, picking what sounded cool. Then after a few months, players had found out the best hybrid combinations and everyone was rerolling.

What im saying is, they have showed GFX, a couple of classes using 2 abilities, and mainly the focus of unveiling was the Minecraft like world.

All of the things that actually matter (to me) were not shown. Gameplay mechanics and the forced requirement to interact with other players in anything I did. Harsh penalties, and the fear of making bad choices.

The crafting stuff is cool, but I was never really into it.
