Next up, American heroes. Mine are 9-11 emergency services workers, Wesley Autrey, and Charles Ramsey, among others.

Zimmerman was trying to protect his neighborhood, and ended up killing one of its residents. The jury returned a not guilty by reason of self defense verdict, and were probably justified in doing so. This hardly makes him a hero.

Another personal hero, this one not an American - Alan Turing. His work on Colossus breaking German codes in WW2 saved the lives of thousands of allied soldiers. He was later jailed for being a homosexual.

These days my heroes are the people who will sit down and listen to facts without being biased. This Zimmerman trial showed that more people will run with biases over facts.

As far as I can tell, due process worked how it was meant to in Zimmerman's case, even if the outcome leaves a bad taste in my mouth. The Martins will likely pursue a wrongful death civil suite next, much like what ended up happening to OJ Simpson.
