Met my first friend in EQ in Lake Rathetear at the aviak spawns at arena zone in. As a newbie druid it was all I could do to keep a 2 spawn down on their spawn time. He and I duo'ed that area, the otehr aviaks, and even pulled ole' Hermit when we had spare time.

There was a single spawn hermit that I would solo on my druid in live. Was almost never camped (Had like a 10 min. respawn). Slow exp, but server was crowded and he was easy to kill and safe. Would always just do him until I could get a aviak spawn/group.

My friends and I would do this as well. Crappy XP but as a druid just snare, dot and blast away for easy kill. Loot on him was bad also. No one seemed to camp him though so you could just pop on and start getting some xp.
