Do any of your hobbies pay $10K a year?
My old roommate is a semi-professional yo-yoer and gets royalties because his name is on a specific model of yo-yo people buy ha. That's the closest I know to someone making a fair amount of money from a very obscure hobby...it's certainly not enough to pay the bills.

Huh can videos no longer be embedded on forums?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bes_h9ll1YA

Link to what I tried to embed. Copied and pasted with "Use old embed code" checked on youtube but that didn't work?

I think the guy who maintains that earnings list and keeps it up-to-date probably has the spurgiest hobby.

That's pretty cool, actually. I can yo-yo a little and I've always liked it. I've been working on body juggling. I like most dexterity skills.

That's from the WotC site. Whoever updates that is getting paid.

We have this group of old men who play "Flames of War" its basically warhammer based off of world war 2.

I change my mind they are the most annoying people I see at game shops.

They are 40+ year old fat men who have never served a day in the military in there life talking about how THEY would win the war in the middle east (Aka Nuke them all and cover the bombs in pig blood)

They scream and yell at each other and eat cheap hoagies from the store across the street all while saying how they should kill the Muslims/arabs/illegals etc.

We had to schedule Flames of War to a random Wednesday because it has no overlap with other games because they are the worst.
This is pretty much how I see everyone on rnf besides me.

That list is also over 7 years old. Some of those players have made quite a bit more. Also as was stated earlier most pro magic players make the jump into the WSOP and earn a lot more money. David Williams and Eric froelich are probably the most well know. Gabriel nassif is also another but im not sure he has had as much success.

Most is a big jump. To say even "A fair amount" would be a jump.

It also has little to nothing to do with Magic and everything to do with the natures of competitive environments in general, what you're saying implies that Magic eventually leads to poker which is simply not true. Many athletes for example participate in several sports but there is no direct correlation between any particular sports leading to participation in specific others.

While I won't dispute that Eric Froehlich is living the dream, statistically he's an anomaly. David Williams for example has gotten himself in trouble multiple times in his Magic career for blatantly cheating.

Williams isn't an exception either, he was buddies with one of the most renowned Magic players Mike Long, who's been disqualified from at least 10 different high tier events for cheating. The creators of the game call him a villain, the players don't seem to care because they can't see past the fact that he "builds good decks".
