I got Lasik...gosh...3 and a half years ago now? My vision went from something like 230/whatever bad number to 20/20. It was amazing. The first year was rough, as my vision fluctuated and I'd panic that I didn't get the best job. But it turned out great.

Now I just deal with eye strain, but that comes from having a computer job. Still don't need glasses for anything, and after the first 23 years of my life needing glasses or being blind, it's great. I've also dealt with a lazy eye since I was younger, which made me uber paranoid during the procedure. But both of my eyes have perfect vision as far as myopia is concerned.

The process is over in like 5 minutes. It's a little jarring, even if they give you valium. But immediately afterwards I was able to sit in the doctors office and read a freaking clock across the room, I nearly burst into tears. Then on the way home I burst into tears again because my eyes hurt so bad. But that's over in like 2 days.

And honestly I had vertigo for about a month because my eyes weren't "lined up" correctly. Turns out, one eye I guess took some time to correct itself. The morning for my 1 month checkup I was cooking breakfast, thinking about how I'd handle the situation with the doctor, and all of a sudden I had a flash of white in my right eye. Once the whiteness left and I felt a "pop", my right eye all of a sudden had perfect vision. So to reiterate, the healing process is truly a process.

What horrors have you read? A lot of the botched procedures occurred from ancient technology that used to use a knife to cut open your eye. Now most of them use a laser, which is much more precise.
