Instead of saying a man came in and robbed the bank today. she decided on
a "******' came in and robbed the bank today. unnecessary, how "upset" could she have been after the event to use the word. In a private setting with your spouse theres no need to censor yourself. I believe she said what she said with full intent of the word

I used to work with this big Audit Accounting firm in Houston, Texas. I am the only few asians who work there; 90% are whites. It was Monday and the same day as the Martin Luther King Holiday. Our client happened to be a bank industry, so it closed to do the holiday. I jokingly asked my Sr. Manager, "Aren't we supposed to be off today? It's the Martin Luther King Holiday." He looked around, make sure no one around and told me softly, "Did you see any N^(^*& working around here?" See that is racist! I no longer work there, and I am glad I left that place. You'd be surprise of what you hear when you sit in the room full of white people. Again, you can't judge them all because not all of them are like that, any race or color.

I honestly don't see the need of the word, his color had absolutely nothing to do with event and no matter how angry she was did using the word alleviate her of this emotion? I get pretty angry I've never really considered calling people names just to piss them off, id rather remedy the situation. Must just be me I guess, the only white non-racist in maine

Based on her interview, I think it was right after the robbing incident. I gave her the benefit of a doubt that she is racist to the fact that I think it was driven by anger and adrenaline rush.
In other hands, if it was casual conversation, then yes. However, I guess we never know. I was growing up in multi-cultural back ground, Asians, Whites, Latinos and Blacks. We threw the N word left and right when we were growing up, and I can honestly say that I am not racist. I'm older now and I no longer say or use that word to my child, spouse, friend or any context. Ignorance isnt excuse but I understand when people angry, they said or do stupid shit all the time.

more broadly, ******, itself, has associations with one dominating another and the usage being a verbal/label reminder of that dominion. the one using it in the situation would likely agree with what it signifies and not take too kindly to being objected to by their using it from another. the power associations run deep, and i think that that's what people don't consider when using it freely. there's also a possible type of behavior of "i stole the bubblegum because i wasn't going to get caught" going on too.

Is every white person who ever muttered the word ****** racist? That seems like an awefully narrow minded view point if you all feel this way.
I would like to think of ****** as such an insignificant derogatory term now. I mean we have a black president, you think he gives a fuck if a white person calls him ******? Doubt it, he would probably laugh it off because he knows its a baseless, empty insult. Now if you say ****** to someone who is perhaps lower class, less educated, been in jail, and is generally a piece of trash, they will probably get very offended. I grew up in an abnormally diverse suburb in new york. Never used the word ****** once except if repeating something said by someone else or reciting rap lyrics. But.....The black/spanish kids in my school seemed to be using the word in every sentence, but somehow racism in this country typically falls on white people, when yoi think of a racist you most likely envision a white guy. Anyway, if a simple ignorant word is enough for someones career to be destroyed then I feel sorry for the people who are offended by this. You must be very insecure in your intelligence level to be so shocked or offended when a white person uses a derogatory word, as if they are the only ones to do so. I'm not defending the opinion or words used by this cat old carpetbagger but come on, being fired for exercising your right to freedom of speech is a crime against your civil liberties no matter how you look at it. Sure, hate speech isn't protected under the.constitution but since when is a word used by ever rap artist, and atleast in new york, a majority of black people, hate speech? I mean by black folks own admission the words used as a term lf endearment for eachother. Tldr; ****** is just a word, if it offends you don't use it or associate with people who do. You can't limit someones free speech protections by dubbing a racial slur hate speech when the very group of people the word was intended to offend use the word regularly as a term of endearment towards eachother. I smell a huge lawsuit and perhaps even a supreme court case coming soon.
