I could be wrong, but i think this is how the Mayan people predicted the end of times would begin. Willowisp pets fighting kodiaks.

Seriously though, i don't know for sure either but i think like the above poster said, think all npcs are considered magic otherwise there would be some heinous activities in the commonlands.
