This is a rant.

Because there are bixies. Banana flavor comes from isoamyl acetate, which is the same chemical that draws other bees to sting the same target. So after several bixie related deaths, erudites stopped the banana boats. After the resulting market crash, bananas were replaced as a cash crop with dry eye weed, and the trees went extinct.
