So anyone want to update me on what's going on with Origins ATM without having to wad through all the garbage that is seemingly even worse than P99 RNF?

How long has the server been down now? Been working all weekend.. ;(

There are reports from a game master of DDOS and EA contacting them. No updates on what actually is going on. Some speculate DDOS took the server down. Some speculate the admins took it down to transfer database to their new server. Some speculate that EA wants to shut them down, and the fact that the main webpage has changed is fueling that theory.

Nobody really knows.

EA DID contact them, the extent of it is unknown. Likely, it's because they called the server Origins which was originally going to be a live server, but considering in 1 week's worth of donations they went and splurged on an uber server, I'm thinking theres a notable paper trail that will work against them defending this as a "just free" server.

Like I said, I'll check back in 2 months or so and see where this is at. Those forums are where angry broken english goes to thrive, clearly European people who play DAoC are fucking morans, just a waste of time trying to do anything regarding that server as a whiole atm

Hahaha... neeeeaaattt! Yeah I could see a copyright infringement there considering it's still archived on the Herald as Origins being an original launch title. This shall prove interesting. I thought the servers (website for me also) were down due to the installation of the second server.

I hope this server doesn't disappear, I mean, P99/Uthgard have been around for quite a long time already. I'd find it really hard to believe SOE/EA had no idea about either one.

As for people wondering why it might be taken down by EA/Mythic, here's a bit of info on that subject; Daoc Origins was a project on live to make a pre-TOA classic server, but without newer expansions like Catacombs for instance...but alas it never happened.

On June 2nd, 2008, Mythic announced on the Camelot Herald the Origins project and revealed their plan:

“This server is designed to return DAOC to the great game experience it was in 2001/2002, while also applying wisdom from the lessons we have learned since then. DAOC is still a great game, but this server has its own appeal that we ‘old school’ players really enjoyed, and our goal is to get back to that while also continuing to support the other rulesets. Origins will not exactly replicate the game as it was is 2001; we are keeping as a part of server the ‘best features’ we have put into the game since launch, such as housing, horses, the market explorer, UI changes (to name only a few) and many of the improved systems introduced over the years.”

The announcement also goes on to lay out their timeframe for the project:

“The most common question continues to be, “Is this really going to happen?”

Origins has been in development for a couple of months now. We have been working with our Team Leads (as part of the Team Lead program) to work through the various gameplay details, ideas, and issues, while also collecting and reading your feedback. Our schedule requires around four to five months of development. This means that since the server has been in development for two months already, we still have another two to three months before it’s ready for primetime. Right now, launch is slated for the August/September timeframe.”
