You are giving Bartley and Stanard to much credit. I watched a Hill Giant kick both their asses. He was down to 10% but the giant won.
As far as animals go though, do I remember wrong here. If I was fighting something on live, and a wolf came by, it would assist me when playing my ranger? I could have sworn I won a duel like that one day in Q-hills. I was fighting a paladin and a wolf passed by, it started to attack the paladin I was fighting.

I've never seen an NPC/mob assist a player. Either the npc would attack something else or it wouldn't... whether or not a player was engaged never mattered. Anything a guard would attack, for example, they'd attack with no player around.

Should any lions be friendly with druids? I thought the druid/ranger faction didn't cross over to lions. Looked up a couple of them and found responses such as these:

As much as I hate posting a statement without a link to back it up, I've scoured archives and modern versions of ranger and druid guides on Allakhazam, Castersrealm, the Druid's Grove, the Ranger's Glade, EQDruids, you name it. I can't find a single definitive statement to back me up on this. But bears = amiable, wolves = amiable, lions = threatening. The evidence is out there, somewhere, I just haven't found it yet. Will give it another go later and edit in a link when I turn it up.
