Do you get all of your real life knowledge from movies?
People go to "dinner" parties out of obligation for family or work. Not for fun. They drink because they can't stand the idea of communicating on any real level with each other.

I never said dinner party. I wouldn't consider a dinner to be a party, but yes I do drink when I go out to dinner or a party.
