We don't really have a timeline for that "first to 100k" number, though my understanding is it was less than a year after release, which would put us somewhere between March 1998 (6 months) and September 1998 (1 year).

My point being that if you're going to try and call Ultima Online the "foundation" for modern MMO's, you need to give as much if not more credit to Everquest as well. It wasn't any one game, it was a combination of several that give us our WoW's and EQ2's and SWTOR's.

Wouldn't be surprised if they did... DikuMUD was A+. Plus the Godwars derivative codebase nearly invented MMO PvP. That shit was cut throat.
