Default Question concerning DoTs

Is there a max limit on DoT spells? I see that on the wiki it says "adds 1 poison counter" or something along those lines, but I can't seem to find out what the limit on disease / poison counters is if there is one at all.

I think you cannot stack similar dots, or the same dot from multiple people.

Unsure what your question is but I'll try.

PR/DR counters don't really have anything to do with spell stacking.

NPCs have the same number of slots available as a PC -- 15.

There can only be one spell line active at once on an NPC.

Two different Druids cannot both land Swarming Death, it will just overwrite depending on level.

A player of your class would be able to give you more detailed information of what active DoT's you could have on a NPC that do not have stacking issues.

That pretty much clears any confusion I've had. Thanks.

I thought poison counters were related to the amount of times/strength of cure spells? IE a poison dot with counter 5 will take 5 casts of a level 5 cure poison.

As for stacking, some spells just don't stack with eachother. Spells of the same spell-line won't of course, but you might run into other stacking issues with a Shaman, Druid, and Necro in the group at the same time. I don't know for sure tho.

Er, shaman dots stack on P99. I regularly use Envenomed Bolt and Bane of Nife stacked. Just ask Blazinelz if it's effective strategy or not =D.

There was a big to-do about it earlier this year; shaman DoTs of the same line definitely stacked in classic EQ, and we came up with enough proof that they implemented it here.

I think it is important to bring out what you did - it is information some people will not know. On the other hand, the kind of "stacking" that was referred to in posts previous to yours was meant to address the scenario where two different players cast the same exact dot, not a dot from the same line.

As you say though, Shaman do enjoy a benefit on poison dot stacking that is not completely shared by Druids and Necros. I believe for those classes, only the highest level dot (meaning the best possible dot of that dot family) will stack with other dots of the same line

Winged Death for druids, while still a "swarm" line spell, will stack with the 49 and lower versions of swarm dots especially useful with free "Drones of Doom" from vambraces/bracers.

Same spell/level caster DoT stacking came after Velious, if the mob had enough room after all the debuffs people threw on them.

Hmmm. Does this mean a necromancer duo would be incredibly ineffective?

You can split up duties and nuke/tap when you have extra mana... 3 would be incredibly ineffective...
