Might be, but either r99 merchants are wrong, or the P99 Wiki is wrong.
One of them needs to be fixed.

Wiki is wrong. You can edit it if you want.
And they are not drop only. Go to temple of solusek ro and find Genni: Genni says 'I will sell you a fire opal for 550 golden coins. Remember, gold! The metal of fire for a gem of fire.'
