Red face Memorial Day

Here in the States, this is the day we pay homage to those who fought (and in many cases died) to preserve our freedom and our way of life. Without them we'd still be a British Colony or a broken country under terrorist rule, or all speaking German.

I know many of you believe that the current conflicts were started for the wrong reasons. I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with you on any of those points. It is not the politicians who we owe our freedoms to, it is the people who's blood made it possible.

I am not an uber patriot... but I am an American. This year I was compelled to write something, so here it is.

Theres no need for that soldier to have all that shit on his back. All he needs is a fucking gun and helmet and to serve his country without question. I'll respect the men and women in the service for fighting but I won't respect what they are fighting for. Freedom? Yeah right, if any country actually seriously got into a war with us we would be in a nuclear holocaust. Besides the only reason we're in the middle east is so we get all that black gold.

Which is actually freedom from reliance on unfriendly powers.

Believe what you will, either way its not the soldier's fault, its the fault of the people in power. The soldiers are doing their jobs. I'm sure a lot of them feel that they shouldn't be there... but they are. Would you have the same conviction?

You do know if you are in the military currently it is not due to conscription. If they feel they shouldn't be there, they shouldn't of enlisted? They knew what they were getting into when they signed up for it, don't kid yourself.

That being said, if I wasn't a nerdy teenager I would've loved to have gone to West Point and became an officer. The discipline of the army is appealing.

Having your military at war every 10-20 years is the best thing your country can do for itself. Seriously, the reason the USA are superior to most fighting forces is the fact that they find excuses to invade and fight. People need to stop kidding themselves about what is best for their country and their children's future.

War is unfortunately inevitable and I'd rather my country be in top shape. As sad as it is, practice makes perfect.

Valid point but let's not forget that a good potion of them probably signed on during a different political climate. The ones that don't want to be there are probably career NCO's, Officers or enlisted that decided to stick it out because serving their country was the right thing to do in there mind, irregardless of the political clime.

I have more respect for them than that. I enlisted in the Airforce but was injured during basic. Having to go to the 319 was hard for me because I wanted so bad to be an airman. Well... that and I found out my uncle died when I returned was even harder.

I will never honor the troops and if you don't agree with me then imo you're part of the problem.
