Memorial Day

Here in the States, this is the day we pay homage to those who fought (and in many cases died) to preserve our freedom and our way of life. Without them we'd still be a British Colony or a broken country under terrorist rule, or all speaking German.

I know many of you believe that the current conflicts were started for the wrong reasons. I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with you on any of those points. It is not the politicians who we owe our freedoms to, it is the people who's blood made it possible.

I am not an uber patriot... but I am an American. This year I was compelled to write something, so here it is.

Well said

Theres no need for that soldier to have all that shit on his back. All he needs is a fucking gun and helmet and to serve his country without question. I'll respect the men and women in the service for fighting but I won't respect what they are fighting for. Freedom? Yeah right, if any country actually seriously got into a war with us we would be in a nuclear holocaust. Besides the only reason we're in the middle east is so we get all that black gold.

Which is actually freedom from reliance on unfriendly powers.

Believe what you will, either way its not the soldier's fault, its the fault of the people in power. The soldiers are doing their jobs. I'm sure a lot of them feel that they shouldn't be there... but they are. Would you have the same conviction?

I will never honor the troops and if you don't agree with me then imo you're part of the problem.

FoxxHound 05-29-2012 06:45 AM

Yeah... I am sad that lots of people (troops) have lost their lives, and for that I will honor their deaths; because I don't think anyone deserves to die.
Though I cannot support them for what they are fighting for. Especially when the country they are fighting for won't even let me get married.

You do know if you are in the military currently it is not due to conscription. If they feel they shouldn't be there, they shouldn't of enlisted? They knew what they were getting into when they signed up for it, don't kid yourself.

That being said, if I wasn't a nerdy teenager I would've loved to have gone to West Point and became an officer. The discipline of the army is appealing.

formallydickman 05-29-2012 08:28 AM

Having your military at war every 10-20 years is the best thing your country can do for itself. Seriously, the reason the USA are superior to most fighting forces is the fact that they find excuses to invade and fight. People need to stop kidding themselves about what is best for their country and their children's future.

War is unfortunately inevitable and I'd rather my country be in top shape. As sad as it is, practice makes perfect.
