Question Luclin Graphics

I was just curious if you can use Luclin graphics or has it still been done away with still?

You used to be able to turn them on in options. Then they patched that out. Someone came up with a work around but I'm not sure if it still works or where to find it. I'm sure some forum searching would turn it up though.

By the Grace of the God Emperor and his Acolytes, Luclin models are disabled on project 1999.

One workaround was done away with, at least one other workaround still works.

PM me if you want me to copy and paste a standard spiel of instructions at you.

Luclin models give an unfair advantage in the game, I hope that encouraging people to cheat is being monitored.

An unfair advantage because ogres can now run around sol without having to be ducked the whole time? Or an unfair advantage because now it's harder to body block people in FTE races? I've never really understood why people think it's an "unfair" advantage. Just turn them on for yourself and then there is no advantage (if there really even is one to begin with)

It seems like you don't grasp the concept of what constitutes an advantage.

As I posted back when the globalload change happened, it would be really, really easy to block the current workaround. The canonical globalload.txt has a line where globalpcfroglok_chr.s3d is loaded. To show LoY froglok models. These aren't classic. The workaround depends on this line being there for the models to animate at all (it's the only one with the right settings in the TTFF part). It's unlikely anyone would put up with Luclin models that are stuck in their ragdoll pose 100% of the time.

It's been a year and a half since that was pointed out. I don't think the devs care very much about this issue. Plus when they did make the globalload change, they did not say anything about it. If they came out and unambiguously said "Luclin models are against the rules," I'd stop giving out the workaround (not that it would be relevant if they spent 30 seconds or so editing the canonical globalload file to cripple it). But as long as their stance isn't available anywhere noticeable, banning anyone for using the workaround would seem a bit unfair. So for the time being, it's out there for those who want it.

They can ban me if they ever come around to it. I've played p99 for all of 5 hours or so. I don't even like Luclin models, personally. I just know a bit about EQ's data formats, and the only thing that is good for is making little tools.

I'm very confused by this....
An advantage is something that one person has that another doesn't, and that gives them some sort of edge over the person that doesn't. How does someone enabling luclin graphics give them an advantage? Seriously, I want to know, everyone has always said this yet I've never heard a good argument. Also, how would it be an advantage when ALL players could turn them on?
