Everyone has their favorite choices of expansions and opinions on what is really classic or not. Some people think classic is just what it is, the Everquest classic with no expansion. Some think it is until Kunark, Velious, Luclin, and even PoP. Others think it is until "The new shit ruined the game", which there is several pieces of shit that ruined that game. What do you consider classic?
Im doing these polls to see what the Project 1999 population is interested in, or you could say, the population of users who use forums.

I played through Luclin and have to say that expansion was the beginning of the end; The Nexus, Bazaar, and massive time sinks ruined Everquest. Getting across continents became easy if you were bound at the Nexus and owned a horse. The Bazaar made haggling and shouting of your wares non-existent and effectively turned player's characters into vending machines. The Vex Thal key quest introduced a new level of time sinks which pushed most people to the brink of insanity. I'm not even going to touch the 100 man Emp fights. Strategy went completely out the window and it issued a new level of grindfest/zerg.
Most people were so high on PoP because it was a breath of fresh air compared to Luclin. I don't know because I quit the day it was released.

I think most consider pre-Luclin to be classic for very good reasons. For me personally, based on my own EQ experience, the game didn't lose its classic feel until GoD when it just started to feel weird to me.

My guild was fairly new right as PoP was being introduced. We farmed ToV and basically skipped Luclin (except the occasional rumblecrush and itraer vius kill) and went straight to PoP progression.
I consider PoP nostalgic in my eyes because it was one of my favorite expansions. But yeah, the "classic" game ended after velious. I didn't mind having the bazaar, but the easy travel makes the game have a different feel.

The game went from having dragons at teleport locations (kunark, velious) you needed a wizard/druid to port to, to having a free teleport from an NPC every 15 minutes to a zone that's so safe you can't even accidentally die. Luclin really was the beginning of the end.

Luclin really was the beginning of the end
So are you guys saying that classic didn't end until sometime during Luclin but before PoP?

Classic ended when Luclin was introduced. The move to new character models changed the feel of the game.

Why would you want to waste more than 15 minutes of time running to a feaking corpse? wouldnt faster travel make things easier? Im sorry, but I dont understand why this would "end" EQ. A lot of people think EQ was about spending 90% of your time running across zones. I say thats a freaking waste of time and that this isnt freaking Lord of the Rings. Its real people playing a game on their real time that they have free.

As for the new character models, you could always change them back to the old ones if you had a problem with them

Also keep in mind, that AA's were probably one of the better inventions in Everquest. Once people level to max, and gain all the gear they want, they can also improve their character that they spent all that time on even more.

Yeah AA's were good, I'll give it that. Although, luclin began the killing of the unique vibe to EQ and made it feel like it was just a generic mmo, by first slaughtering the tight knit community/social aspect ie. self porters, bazaar, etc. Then to literally making certain classes obselete. Not to mention the horrible storyline...Point is there were more con's then pro's.

Shut the fuck up, you whining little pissant.
Everquest is fun because it is hard.
Naked CR's give you a fucking reason not to die. In every new game, if you die, it's not an inconvenience, so you don't struggle to stay alive.
If you don't understand that, join the rest of the world in the online sensation by Blizzard, the World of Warcraft. It will be much more suited to your needs.
I have a problem with you playing with the new models, because I don't want any retarded screenshots of my character showing up.
AA's were cool.
That is all.

I say "classic EQ" died at velious but the game was fun up through PoP. SSRA raids were fun as fuck as was almost all of PoP raids.

I consider Classic to be Vanilla/Kunark/Velious. Luclin was the beginning of the end, as others have pointed out. Things like Nexus, Bazaar, graphic changes (half of which sucked), all impacted the "immersion" factor - of which is what got me hooked on EQ to begin with.
PoP was a great expansion minus PoT/PoK (concept of PoK is kewl minus the damn teleporters - see immersion factor).
After that tho, things got crazy. Some expansions were great, others...meh...not so great.
I guess my point is that Luclin thru GoD each expansion began to change the feel of the game just a little bit until GoD where I just literally lost interest.

People keep saying "the beginning of the end" and it makes me think that there was some patch mid-Luclin that was the final blow to classic EQ. Was it the patch when baz went live? I remember that not going live at release. Personally I liked the original baz. It was a way more fun place to hang out than the tunnel ever was. Remember the little arena it had?

everyone knows this server should go to PoP with no vah shir/beast lords/bazaar/PoK books or stones/nexus gates.
aa's are awesome and if people wanted to get to PoK or Nexus they should have to be ported by a wiz/druid.
most people quit after velious because they didn't know they could use old models and the raid scene got too hard for them, plus paying for 2-3 years of EQ was the max they could afford.
tite rite?

If they didnt know how to switch models then they deserve to quit playing since they must be stupid. It was announced when the new models were up and it was also announced how to change them back. People couldnt afford paying after 2-3 years...so this is not because of other expansions?
