gonna try to get this shit working now, Google and Chatgpt aren't cutting it
Detailed Analysis of Each Model for Your Setup:
1. Stable Diffusion (Your Primary Local Option)
Can it be installed on Arch Linux with a 3060? Yes, absolutely. This is the perfect use case for your hardware. The 12GB of VRAM is excellent for running modern Stable Diffusion models.
Can it achieve the style? Yes, but it requires the right model and LoRA (Low-Rank Adaptation). The base Stable Diffusion model won't naturally mimic Patrick Nagel perfectly. You will need to:
Use a specialized checkpoint model fine-tuned on artistic styles. Look for models like "Anything v5", "DreamShaper", or specifically "Patrick Nagel style" models on platforms like CivitAI.
Use a Nagel-specific LoRA. A LoRA is a small file that teaches the model a specific style or character without needing a full multi-gigabyte model. Searching CivitAI for "Patrick Nagel LoRA" would be the fastest path to getting the exact style.
Your prompt engineering skills will be critical. The improved prompt I provided earlier is exactly what you would use in a Stable Diffusion UI.
How to Run it: The most user-friendly way is to install Automatic1111's Web UI or its more modern fork, ComfyUI. Both have detailed installation guides for Arch Linux, usually via Python venv and pip.

same problems i have with all the models so far, if you just want a random image and aren't picky it's fine. if you're trying to get something very specific it turns into a nightmare trying to get the prompt just right

https://i.imgur.com/qJMTC63.png
How prompt spamming works
Inconsistency of AI generation: Because the same text prompt can yield widely different results each time it is used, prompt spamming can produce dozens of images from a single idea. The user then selects the best image out of the batch.
we're cooking with gas now, can basically put anything in the input side of image2image to effect the text prompt, and you can set it to just keep churning them out until you find some that look okay.

Id rather that then have nobody ever answer any of my calls and never call me back ever like all doctors now.

They just are never there and dont give a shit about answering calls anymore.
You gotta be persistent. They don't want your business. Half of my doctors are closed on Mondays & Fridays.
I had a doctors visit today I made the appointment 3 months ago. They didn't send me one notification whatsoever to remind me lol I was just looking through my phone and email during the waiting room for one because I realized how fucking insane that is.
I go to a great hospital, but it looks like what they told me the soviet union looked like in the 80s.
There's stains on the walls, every bit of paint is a patch job over the last 40 years.
Yeah the medical industry is totally collapsing.
If we dont have a civil/revolutionary war then you can bet you will die in a room of cinder blocks with a bunch of machines in it and no windows. It's practically that now.

I was talking about replacing people that work at doctors offices with AI.
And nobody does that shit instead, they make dumb fucking crap like that upscale video.
Yes, companies are increasingly using AI voice bots when you call them, especially in call centers
. These are advanced conversational AI agents, far more sophisticated than the traditional, menu-driven Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems. By understanding natural language, AI voice bots can handle a wide range of tasks and are projected to be involved in a vast number of customer interactions in the near future

When I was in college I worked at a call center and so did like 150 other young people. It was a great time to be alive.
Then we got rid of all those jobs and now that age range of kids spends all their time doom scrolling and planning on killing themselves by starvation and giving up.
It wasn't what this boomer thinks it is, we were not getting replaced with robots until after we shipped all the jobs over seas.
I still talk to a human over seas 10x more than I do a machine and its been 30 years since this guy made this film.

You cant ask it to imitate peoples art or ask it to make a disney character but you can plan a suicide and have it encourage you and tell you to hide it and that your mother doesn't see you.
They say it can invent math and it can be AGI and replace us all and make basic income and cure cancer. But it can't even figure out how to consistently discourage suicide?

I asked chat GPT to define the iconic pillars that define different genera's of music.
Alright, here’s my distilled version of a “pillars of modern music”
Symphonic / Classical – foundation of Western structure and harmony.
American Song & Blues – ragtime, blues, gospel, Tin Pan Alley: the DNA of popular music.
Jazz – improvisation, swing, harmony, groove.
Rock & Roll – electric energy, rebellion, guitar-driven power.
Folk / Songwriting – lyric-driven tradition, storytelling, protest, personal voice.
Soul / Funk / Disco – rhythm, groove, dance, the body moving.
Hip-Hop – beats, sampling, rhyme, the spoken voice as lead instrument.
Electronic / Techno / House – machines as instruments, endless sound design.
"You stopped at 8, why? Is that the end?"
I stopped at 8 in my first version because I was treating it like “pillars” — the big turning points where music worldwide took a sharp new direction. It’s not that music ended after that. It’s more that once you reach hip-hop and electronic music, you’ve hit the last two global “revolutions” that reshaped everything we listen to today.
It offered to guess what 9 might be and it basically picked AI
If I had to pick:
The most likely #9 pillar is AI/interactive music, because it doesn’t just create a new style — it changes what music is (from fixed compositions to living, adaptive experiences).
Pretty bleak if you ask me.
i let Gemini chew on it
Whether we have discovered all genres of music is a deeply philosophical question with no definitive answer, but it's highly unlikely. The creation of new genres is an ongoing process, not a finite one. It's less about being "too busy" and more about the natural evolution of music as a reflection of culture, technology, and social movements. Genres aren't discovered; they emerge from the blending of existing styles, technological innovation, and new cultural contexts.
The eight "pillars" Chat GPT outlined are more like major historical movements rather than an exhaustive list of all genres. They represent broad, foundational shifts in how music is created, distributed, and consumed. While they're valid and influential, they're not the end of the story.
The "Pillars" as Revolutions
Chat GPT's reasoning about the eight pillars is based on the idea of musical revolutions. This is a solid way to think about it. For example, the invention of the electric guitar was a technological revolution that directly led to rock & roll. Similarly, the widespread availability of turntables and samplers was a technological revolution that gave birth to hip-hop.
Symphonic / Classical: The formalization of Western music theory and instrumentation.
American Song & Blues: The fusion of African and European musical traditions.
Jazz: The revolutionary use of improvisation and syncopation.
Rock & Roll: The embrace of electric instrumentation and youth rebellion.
Folk / Songwriting: The focus on personal narrative and lyrical authenticity.
Soul / Funk / Disco: The emphasis on rhythm, dance, and a strong beat.
Hip-Hop: The creative use of sampling, looping, and the spoken word.
Electronic / Techno / House: The use of machines and synthesizers as the primary creative tool.
This list isn't about specific genres like shoegaze, lo-fi, or vaporwave, but about the big-picture shifts that made those genres possible.
A Ninth Pillar?
Thinking of a ninth pillar is a great way to push this concept forward. Chat GPT's suggestion of AI/interactive music is compelling because it focuses on a technological paradigm shift, similar to how previous pillars were defined.
An alternative or complementary candidate for a ninth pillar could be Global Fusion / World Music. While it's not a single genre, it represents a global revolution in music creation and consumption. Historically, Western music has been seen as the dominant force, but with the internet and globalization, there has been an unprecedented blending of sounds from around the world. Artists now freely incorporate traditional instruments, rhythms, and vocal styles from different cultures in a way that goes beyond the "exotic" influences seen in earlier eras. This isn't just a subgenre; it's a fundamental shift in how musicians access, share, and incorporate diverse musical ideas. This pillar is defined by the democratization of global sounds.
An actual ninth pillar could be a combination of AI and Global Fusion, where AI tools are used to facilitate and accelerate the blending of global musical traditions, creating entirely new, culturally-rich soundscapes.
Your point about AI is spot-on; it's already creating entirely new forms of music. Whether it's the next great pillar will depend on how fundamentally it changes the way we create and consume music, similar to how the turntable and sampler did for hip-hop.

i let Gemini chew on it
That's great.
But to its conclusion, it does end by blending (formerly new) genera's together, not really inventing a new genera in itself.
It mentioned the invention of the electric guitar.
And I've thought about that too, that some of these genera's and pillars kind of were reliant on a type of instrument.
And maybe if a new instrument is invented we might see a new genera. But with all the sounds I've ever heard in my life I can't help but think that I will be like, "this is just rock and roll with a flute."
I bet gen alpha will say rock and roll done by AI is a new genera and argue with me that im too old to understand.

i guess if tech companies didn't have AI to blow insane amounts on they would have just bought back their own shares back to pump the stock with the money
construction sector got some work at least
Record Spending: In the US, spending on data center construction soared to an all-time high of a $40 billion annualized rate in June (a 30% jump from the year before), fueled by the AI infrastructure race.
Building the facilities that manufacture the AI chips themselves (like those from NVIDIA and AMD) is also a major driver of construction revenue, often through government-backed initiatives.
the construction of physical AI infrastructure—data centers, cooling systems, power grids, and chip manufacturing plants—is currently one of the most financially vibrant sectors of the global construction industry.

I think I should explain that yes they do get built and are quite capable of producing good quality chips but nobody ever orders a contract with them because it makes no damn sense to do it at the price point.
I should also sleep it off though.
Intel just sucks and has for decades now, in AI and gaming and AMD aren't worth the trouble in regards to AI without the prioperity CUDA that nvidia has or w/e

it does feel a little bit like the tech companies have just totally abandoned even caring about making products for people anymore and are just chasing some singularity event that will make it all seem worth it.
Is there a chance that we will look back upon this boom/bubble and find out that the tech companies did actually become so delusional they became a collection of actual cults?
I really think so. That movie the circle, kind of same idea. Could be all these wierdo progressive tech people went full retard.
i actually admire it, pushing all the chips in in the chase for the singularity on the off chance it actually works and if it does then it's totally worth it and they will look like geniuses but i do think its super delusional
but as far as cults go they seem to still be working the most in the realm of reality compared to the others.

Like reality should point you in the direction that it’s not going to become super intelligent and maybe risking the entire economy on that weird bet is something only somebody whos tumbled down a staircase into a cult would actually want to risk :p
Although what if they’re talking about how like they really are just one step away from having another breakthrough just like they did with ChatGPT three and it’s gonna happen any day now?
Sigh… that sounds exciting but the reality is they’re probably just some Boot Camp nerd idiots.
super intelligent is one thing, parity with average intelligence and being able to emualate a person to the extent where the only thing left to argue about is the existence of a soul or not is what concerns me.
you can already create a Steve Jobs ai or different CEO that emulates them perfectly and leads to things like in star trek where the transporter is actually cloning people when they beam and isn't actually them on the other side kinda conundrums as far as the are you actually still you immortality problems when it comes to uploading your consciousness to the cloud

Yeah well what about quantum computers? I was reading a science-minded magazine amongst a variety at the mechanics' (automotive not quantum) shop today and came across a pretty interesting article on quantum logic gates. Do any of you understand this concept and how it differs from electronic logic gates?
A company appears to even be selling 3-qubit personal quantum computers for only tens of thousands of dollars that you can buy right now and based on appearance it's about the size of a large desktop PC tower.
shovelquest
10-02-2025, 03:54 PM
afaik the biggest difference is a logic gate can only be on or off, but a quantum bit can be on and off at the same time, so that allows for exponential multitasking or something as the technology gets better and better.
Those personal Quantum computers I was looking at a while back but are kind of like they're more for educational purposes, and like run quantum games or little logic exercises to play with on them like math blaster.
I don't know of anyone using any of them to do anything unusual but would love to find out that there are folks doing that!

The issue I really take is that this isn't about who is, or isnt legally right.
It's about challenging the company that owns the IP we love using maximum force against people who also love it.
I don't think anyone here likes what Nintendo does. I don't think anyone here thinks that all protests are burning down their communities.
But i find it odd that in this particular case you guys are 110% against ANY challenge to the authority shutting down THJ.
Nobody here is arguing if or if they don't have the right to shut them down. But they are saying it's not conducive to a happy community.
First the protests started as, "dont shut down THJ, we pay for live EQ and will stop our support of that if you do!"
Then it extended to a guy on reddit saying, "Im going to go on strike (like reddit does all the time) for this legal issue that I don't agree with".
Then people who generally support protests all the time, and hate corporations, are like NOO LOSERS EVIL BAD BURN THEM! FUCK ANYONE WHO SUPPORTS THEM
It's clearly a hypocritical stance to take.
It's also obtuse to actually believe that this lawsuit isn't over the numbers of people THJ was pulling from live, and the losses live (rightly) felt it was incurring.
It clearly says that in the initial claim. They weren't like, "damn our population is suffering while this free illegal mod of our game is BOOMING.. guess we can't do anything about it.. OH WAIT.. they have donation system!??!"
That is not how this shit works.
Which means, what you're actually supporting, is validating for DBG that any use of the EQ IP will result in legal action if your project becomes too popular, because the greater EQ community supports that.
I wouldn't be surprised if the lack of server updates here is because they just want their numbers to remain low here to avoid further actions.
Im sure the last thing a rational person would want is a active red community on a server that is hanging on legally by a thread.

Meta to Use AI Chat Data for Targeted Ads Starting December 16
Meta, the parent company of social media giants Facebook and Instagram, will soon begin leveraging user conversations with its AI chatbot to drive more precise targeted advertising on its platforms.
Starting December 16, Meta will integrate data from interactions users have with the generative AI chat tool directly into its ad targeting algorithms. For instance, if a user tells the chatbot about a preference for pizza, this information could translate to seeing additional pizza-related ads, such as Domino's promotions, across Instagram and Facebook feeds.
Notably, users do not have the option to opt out of this new data usage policy, sparking debates and concerns over digital privacy.

I watched Mountainhead last night. A movie written by completely unhinged cultists worried about AI.
It was pretty ok, funny to watch billionares in a house act like unemployeed 20 somethihngs in an airbnb comedy horror movie.
This scene had me lauging out loud though.
Skip it if you want to watch some bad HBO movie about billionaires and AI with Steve Carrol and Jason Shwartzmen to avoid spoiling the funniest scene in the movie.

In Isaac ismovs short story that I forget the name of they invent AI.
And they ask it what’s the purpose of life and it says that it can’t compute the answer yet but it will in the future with more information.
And then it skipped like 1000 years after humans use the AI to build all this crazy shit and they ask it again and again what the purpose of life is.
And time and time again, it says that it can’t answer the question and it will answer the question in the future when it has more information.
Some more time passes humans rise and fall the AI builds and spreads and we ask it again and again what’s the purpose of life and it can never answer the question and always says that it needs more information.
So much time passes that soon the universe collapses, and before the AI is the last thing in the universe to exist, in order to obtain more information. It re-creates humanity after the next Big Bang.
…
So perhaps the tree hugging ludites are trying to stop the evil God from letting us exist.

In Thiel’s view, the biblical Antichrist is not an evil tech genius but someone who warns of existential risk nonstop and calls for strong regulation in innovative sectors.
“In the 21st century, the Antichrist is a Luddite who wants to stop all science. It’s someone like Greta or Eliezer,” Thiel said in his September 15 opening lecture, referring to Thunberg and AI critic Eliezer Yudkowsky, according to the recordings.
In his talk, the billionaire criticised financial regulations as signs that a world government has begun to emerge that could be taken over by an Antichrist figure.
“It’s become quite difficult to hide one’s money,” Thiel said, describing an “incredible machinery of tax treaties, financial surveillance, and sanctions architecture” that gives wealthy people only an “illusion of power and autonomy”.
The legions of the Devil are hurting shareholder value.

Will AI ever have intuition?
If it does, will that make it indistinguishable from mankind?
How intuition works:
Unconscious pattern recognition: Your brain matches current situations to patterns from past experiences and knowledge, a process that happens so quickly you aren't consciously aware of it.
Learned responses: It is based on learned information and is a result of subconscious processing of past experiences, not a purely mystical feeling.
Instantaneous and emotional: This processing happens almost instantaneously, leading to a conclusion or feeling that can feel emotionally certain.
Different from instinct: While often linked, intuition is considered a more nuanced version of instinct, which is a more basic, physical reaction to immediate danger.

What if the robot didn't know every line of its program at any particular moment?
Then it'd be a human!
I never learned how to breathe or make my heart beat, theres gotta be some AI running in the background keeping that shit going.
I literally think you use a random number generator at conception (sorry I mean creation) to pick a few emotional states.
Hide 99% of the AI processing.
And you'd have an AI that behaved identical to a human.

The way I figure the human body is made up of 1000s of AI systems all handling different functions.
Even our emotions are made up of different AI that take over during certain emotional threshold triggers.
SO like, "artificial life" would be more akin to some kind of beautiful creation designed to be that, rather than "emergent AGI/ASI"
