View Full Version : How Blood Guard does Lodi

I heard that part of the reason Manasana left AG was due to RL political reasons.
AG is full of liberals and socialists, people he commonly calls "libtards." This created a rift between Manasana and the guild, as many of the AG members took great offense to being called "libtards."
When the rest of AG leadership refused to boot the liberals and socialists (some of them are "libtards" too), Manasana decided to commit mutiny and take with him others who supported a more conservative outlook in RL (fiscally/socially) because this matters in the game.
Thus, BG was born.
He's actually Eric Trump in real life, and Willfight is Ben Carson
Really off topic here, but sure, I'll bite.
Napoleon's strategy at Austerlitz relied heavily on him getting his opponents to believe he was weak and therefore goad them into attacking him. His victory at Austerlitz is considered to be one of the greatest tactical battles in history (next to Hannibal's victory at Cannae), in part because he really was weaker (his force was smaller than the Prussians' and the Holy Roman Empire's at the time), and also because he accurately predicted exactly what needed to happen to ensure his victory.
Historians pretty widely accept his strategy at Austerlitz as a great one, so unless you want to contest that, the only matter of contention is "can fooling your opponent into thinking you're weak and then defeating him when he abandons his position to attack you be considered a 'dick move'".
Back on topic though, I'd hardly consider playing an 18 year old PVE MMO to be on the same level as fighting an enemy army in a battle that will decide the fate of your nation. One seems a little more acceptable to fight tooth and nail as it's literally a matter of life and death, the other is just a video game, and I'd expect more people to be willing to adhere to common decency when 'competing' in the latter.

This is some of the more hilarious shit I have seen on these forums. Damn good summary sir.
Rather than just quote peeps left and right, I'll add my two twigs to this now smoldering fire:
The tactics exhibited by the BG members were in poor taste, but legal. There is no dispute in this, either from a player perspective or GM perspective (as we saw form Sirkens ruling). While I don't approve of preemptively stealing the preferred pet in an attempt to deny another guild a kill, I do understand why it was done. Fairly clever really.
The AG players, intentionally or not, broke the rules. Period. What was visible on your client is irrelevant. What your intentions were, is irrelevant. The rules were broken the instant the first spell landed on that dog, an NPC already engaged by another player. The classy thing to do would have been to apologize, break charm, and attempt the fight without the pet, or charm something else that was available.
Now, I have been away form the game for around a year, coming back only in September. As far as I recall, AG has always been a guild that tries to stay on the right side of the rules, and I personally have never seen them attempt to skirt the rules for their own gain. I know next to nothing about BG other than that Mana left AG to join/form/whatever BG. While the opinions of the various leaders may be neutral to each other, it is clear some guild members (and officers) have some seriously salty feelings towards each other that extend far beyond a frankly insignificant lodi attempt.
Y'all need to kiss and make up. Petty bullshit like this only serves to tarnish reputations. And as stated above, AG largely stays out of RNF. For good reason. Lets keep it that way.
Dreenk317, I am still laughing over those memes. Thanks for that.

Cecily, please fuck off. I said a hundred times by now that there was no way to know if tash landed before melee. We evidently need FTE shouts on all potential pets in Iceclad Ocean.
I'm not ignorant of the rules and neither is my wife. When I refer to my naivety, I'm talking about the fact that we were not mentally prepared for griefers.
Come on man. It took me a month of playing on P99 to see how dicks play on this game.
As soon as I see ONE player march up to a mob camp area I am at, I 100% expect them to try something sheisty and I am on high alert waiting for them to try something dirty.
You been here WAY too long to not be the same way as me. :)
The problem here is being a grizzled veteran yet feigning ignorance of other's behavior on this game/server. This sounds very disengenuous.
Basically BG played dirtier than you, and won.
Also to note, both parties tried to win the ever-important encounter with the Legendary Summoned Sirken.
When BG won The Favor of Sirken through master mob-lawyering, the situation was brought to RnF for some fun and with hopes that some vindication would be wrought out of it.
TL;DR
All I got from this thread was you need to up your dirty playing and not be so upset when you are outplayed via dirty tactics.
I also learned Manasana types out very long raging run-on sentences and is a neocon that hates liberals.
And, I learned some of BG are masters at playing dirty so I will be on extremely high alert anytime I see this guild near any valuable mobs I am trying to camp.

I thank the ForumQuest gods for this thread, all you should be kissing Grizluk's feet right now! Soooo much entertainment in here.
A true RnF gem amongst imitators.
This scenario is like a Roe v. Wade ruling across the lands of Norrath... is purposefully killing a mob in order to facilitate the death of 2 players just to gain loot on a mob they are engaged with within the confines of the play nice policy?
Conversely, when engaged in battle, is it not a smart move to take out your opponent's arsenal to swing the tide of battle in your favor? What general would not endorse this maneuver?
A true paradox the lands of Norrath has never seen, nor never will again.
I think Sirken got it just right, despawn Lodi, no loot for anyone. Moral of the story: if you don't work together to resolve disputes, no one comes out ahead.
Also, for all you guys claiming Grizluk is throwing his wife under the bus... just stop. That is very personal and accusatory, and frankly you are just trying to cause RL drama away from the keyboard. Don't talk about another man's wife, be a decent human being. Even if you feel that is really the case just stop, why cause any RL strife? This is a freaking game people, calm yourself.
Lastly, everyone is losers in the story since Lodi is cancer.
P.S. I'm in AG
P.P.S. I heart Manasana, he recruited me into AG. He is responsible for leading multiple open plate house events for greed / recruitment and Gwurm farms that were NBG on spells for all. He cares about helping folks out and gets a rush from it.
P.P.P.S. Grizluk and Meah are solid people, a lot of you are taking a dump on them unnecessarily. I'm willing to bet a lot of you are nice folk in game but have gotten into camp disputes that you feel you are in the right on, yet others feel you are scum for. Judge not.

I agree with this I never get into the whole personal attack stuff, even when it's posed as a "joke" because these kind of jokes can actually create dissension in people's RL regardless how strong their relationship may be.

Here you are only confirming yourself as a true AG koolaid drinker. Stop pretending to love Manasana so much, it's truly unwarranted and only causes recoil. Dude ran those "events" so he could gear his alts if anything dropped he could use, so stop pretending all of his ingame actions were for the betterment of AG. This is such horse shit. :)

This statement is well-meant but you have to recognize the context of it all. They initiated this by posting their ingame business in RnF! So you got to expect some hard hitting regarding their ingame behavior or actions. Again, the personal stuff I think is uncalled for, but personal stuff relating to what they did IN THE GAME is fair game.

You're pretty wrong about this. He did a TON of gwurms, plate house, vox and VSR all of which he distributed loot on a need first basis. And most of these events he welcomed non guildies to join in the fun as well. Dont judge him on his inability to read or write.

Absolutely, Lhancelot talking out of his freaking ass again. I didn't even mention all the Vindi / KDT raids, all the VS / VSR times he logged on alts to tank, and the countless times he recruited in guild to organize a raid for someone's epic.
Seriously, if you needed an epic fight you just sent Manasana a tell and he would get guild chat spam going, something like:
"ATTENTION!! Monk Epic fight in Lake of Ill Omen for AG_Member!! Get your ass to LoIO and help out!! Need Tank and DPS, who's with me?!?! 111"
And he wouldn't stop spamming that until enough people came. Nothing in it for him typically. Of course he bid on some items for alts and main for like HoT drops or rare boss kills, but come on, you want a judge a guy on spending DKP he earned?? No one questioned or griefed when Manasana won a bid, cause he had a hand in helping everyone in the guild.

Yes, this is basically what happened. For what my opinion is worth (and it isn't much), I disagree with how Sirken handled this, though I don't have the context of however many hundred Lodi petitions he has had to deal with. I can't necessarily blame him form playing the angry dad who finds his kids fighting over a ball and takes it away, yelling "now you BOTH don't get to play!"
Personally, after talking to the players to make sure they understood the rules as Sirken did, I would have respawned Lodi, told the AG players they had to start over and were not allowed to touch Grizlin while BG was camping Grizlin, respawned Grizlin for BG, and just had the players resume where they left off but with the mobs at full health. When someone gets a penalty in football, they don't cancel the game. One team loses some yards and then they resume play. I think it should be the same here.
But that's just me, what do I know.

No one is kissing his ass, we're telling it like it is. Go back and read my responses in this thread. Did I sound like I was kissing Mana's ass? I took issue with how BG behaved and how Mana responded, and I told him that in this thread. That doesn't invalidate all the things he did when he was in AG. Just because we give credit where it is due doesn't mean we are "drinking the AG koolaid," whatever the fuck that means.

As I mentioned waaay earlier I also thought this would have been a fair course. I don't know what time zone anyone else involved is in but I know at 5am after a full 24 hours of tracking and going after spawns that I was completely spent. A couple of hours after this I blacked out while tracking fear for the CT spawn.
I don't blame him one bit though for just taking the toy from all of us.

Not how things are handled here. If kids can't play nice, you punish all of them. AG got the brunt of the punishment since they were the ones that broke the rules, but it wasn't a positive outcome for anyone, besides well people like me that feed off this type of stuff.
What happened was an example of competition, that ever so highly lauded play style ideal, which in reality is just preventing other people from getting something you want. If you're the one prevented from getting what you want guess what? That guy was kind of a dick. The big overall take away is that competition sucks here.

the part you missed is:
1.5 AG charms a currently engaged mob off of BG because "they need it to kill lodi, and its unfair BG is denying us him for Lodi, because they know we will die if we dont have him"
and part:
2.5 AG is using the charm KS'ed mob B in order to now kill mob A, so yes, mob A got despawned because that was there intended target, and they broke server rules in order to kill mob A.
There is the logic behind that.

Rules of Forumquesting:
1. For maximum troll effect, deliberately misinterpret what others write.
2. Use lots of hyperbole and if you can muster up falsified or actual real logs to support your claims, even better!
3. Use nerd tech warfare such as gifs, memes, SS's of chats, etc. coupled with clever nerd jargon you are bound to find followers on the forums, but be prepared you will also create forum enemies.
***Forumquesting is fun but if you partake you have to be prepared for the good and the bad.
Also, I do not believe you (Orangemang) are a forumquesting noobie. :)
In all honesty I don't hate AG, I just dislike how it seems like a common theme that their guild touts this goody-two-shoes image when they have many greedy neckbeards that are no better than the guilds they like to insult for supposed greed of pixels.
BG comes off poorly thanks to bad representation by Manasana, honestly he should not have tried to defend them, it only made them look worse with his insults and smugness. I am sure Mana is a good guy, as often times the forums do not give a true representation of the person.
The devs should enable guild wars PVP on blue p99. It would be pretty fun seeing AG and BG going to war over Lodi.

The forums are pretty accurate.
Sometimes people don't express themselves accurately with words.
Whether it's human error, poor command of a written language, etc., it's not uncommon to misunderstand exactly what someone is trying to convey.
Sometimes others simply misread or misunderstand the meaning behind the words others write.
These couple of variables along with countless others I have not even begun to get into account for a misunderstanding or misrepresentation of a person when all you have to go on is written words in a forum-type setting.
That's one reason I try not to judge others harshly by what they write on forums.
I may not like their words, but I also know that words don't always represent what a person is really about, actions do. (I judge others more by actions, not words.)

They brought you in, put their arms around you and taught you everything you know.
They clothed you and your army of alts in as much gears as they could possibly supply you with.

Manasana got his sky items, he doesn't go to sky. These are facts, and I like to say the name Manasana alot for some reason. I dont think youre allowed to sell drops in AG you get on raids, so if it's not a mob with a top tier item or something he can sell, he won't be there

If anyone can't read, it's you.
I never "judged" him because he writes run-on sentences I simply said I learned that he does so... I also never said he had an inability to read... Where did you pull this stuff from, rofl.
You read what I post, and get what you want out of it because you are a window licking koolaid drinking AG member that is offended when your past AG officer is criticized for his INGAME behavior.
It's fine that you support your guild and even Manasana who left your guild and slanders them in this thread. You want to continue the pattern of kissing his ass, go right on ahead, just remember he's in another guild now, you can refrain from kissing his ass.
Manasana was fantastic for running pick up raids. That man made things happen in a big way on off nights. He was everything I ever wanted in a lower tier raid leader and provided the guild a lot of momentum on the free nights. Many druids and wizards on this server can thank him for their epic, mostly still AGers :)
Remember when we were all one family? /tears

Manasana got a full set of HoT gear stopped coming to HoT. Manasana got full plate for his alt he stops going to plate house. Manasana got torpor from guardian wurms he stopped doing wurms. Manasana got his sky items, he doesn't go to sky. These are facts, and I like to say the name Manasana alot for some reason. I dont think youre allowed to sell drops in AG you get on raids, so if it's not a mob with a top tier item or something he can sell, he won't be there

Finally someone that confirms exactly what I been saying.
Again, you know what? I don't dislike the dude, I just hate when people are disengenuous and/or hypocrites.
Anyone that only points out the "good" things Mana did in AG and proclaim at the top of their lungs he aint a greedy pixel eating nerdling is drinking the AG koolaid and need to take the blinders off.
Whatever, it's yall's boat you riding in, go wherever you want. Dude loves his pixels and is motivated by self-interests first.
I just wonder how BG is going to advance his pixel needs.
Manasana probably should have joined one of the larger raid guilds, but then again they have a much more organized method to ensure pixels are sorted fairly whereas a "casual" smaller guild is a bit more easy to manipulate to one's benefit.

When Nemce left, AG lost it's identity. He was the soul and spirit of AG.
Come to think of it, Mana might have just seen the writing on the wall and understood the ship was sinking, thus he popped the escape hatch before he went down with it.
Sadly I think AG is doomed. Before long, Rygar and others who still kiss Mana's ass will be joining BG. That will be the end of AG.

It's true. We lost our spirit and soul, and as you all know, those are the two most valuable resources in everquest guilds. Once this ship sinks, we all lose our accounts permanently. Get out while you still can, brothers! There's still time to save yourselves!

When a GL leaves a guild, and officers start jumping ship, it only means one thing. I don't need to connect the dots here, folks.
Azure Guard is dying.

Lhancelot the Prophet speaks the truth. Let me tell you the tale how I, Wedar, brought about the fall of Azure Guard.
AG has long been dependent on my 3-4 raid attendances per year, and without me their knowledge of the Hole would be completely lost, bottle-necking too many member epics and causing unrest.
For months now, I have missed Manasana. My lips grew chapped as my favorite buttocks to kiss had left to form Blood Guard. So chapped in fact that my mouth resembled a collection of wrinkled Marr Cherries.
AG and BG were set to meet in the Freeport Square to discuss terms on how to handle future Lodizal engages between us, along with how to rotate other scraps that A/A had no time to chase after.
It was here, that I would drive the knife into Azure Guard. We all faced off at the square, Manasana stood unmoving, resolute, and defiant as he waited for Ruffel to make the first offering of terms. But it was Wedar who stepped forward...
Hushed murmurs spread amongst the AG ranks as I crossed the line and stood behind Manasana. With one hand I stripped the AG mark from my tunic, with the other I grabbed Manasana's trousers and pulled them down to his ankles.
The mid-day sun nearly blinded me as it reflected off his pasty buttocks. But slowly, as my pupils dialated the sight before me came into view...
White as the glaciers of Everfrost, but with a scattering of subtle veins that would drive a dwarf mad with desire of cobalt. A surface so cratered that it would put Lavastorm to shame, and with enough hair to attract the burliest Gnoll.
I pursed my lips and pushed them into Manasana's ass repeatedly... I knew not whether my teeth had lanced a boil or if it was just the spewing forth of my own saliva, and I did not care... only that the juices filled my once cracked lips and made me whole again.
Many members of AG cringed and wretched (all but Sadiki), Ruffel fell to his knees in defeat, one by one they all ripped the brand of AG from their shirts and crossed over, getting in line behind me ready to pay hommage to their new leader. Many ran to the guild hall to topple the statues of Nemce that had been erected in his honor.
And so, Azure Guard had fallen.
I stood and fastened Manasana's trousers. I tell Manasana, "I trust I did well in paying you hommage?"
Manasana tells me, "I'm sorry, I'm away from keyboard right now (A.F.K.)"
Confusion set in for a moment, then all of a sudden Manasana shouted:
"VS POP!! VS POP!! We need Chanters to Rune and lots of DPS, I'm logging over to Tank, get your fucking asses to Dreadlands NOW!! Meet inside KC. Join on discord to chat or even to listen, it's a lot of fun! Come on everybody LET'S DO THIS!!"
Manasana tells me, "Heh, what? Was AFK. Hommage, whats that? what are you talking about? VS Pop dude, you coming? Could use DPS, we need u!"

I dont think youre allowed to sell drops in AG you get on raids, so if it's not a mob with a top tier item or something he can sell, he won't be there
This is 100% accurate, except for the Sky part. He never went to Sky and insulted those that did.
He avoided most scheduled raids if he could.

The harsh truth is that everyone that joins a raiding guild does so in the pursuit of pixels. Everyone that goes on a raid does so in the pursuit of pixels, for them, or there friends, does not matter. Pixels are why we raid.
Another truth is that sometimes people leave guilds, it happens.

Anyways the things people are saying Manasana stopped doing in AG once he stopped benefiting from them? He does with BG and he still has just as little to gain from them. So what's the spin on that?

While it's true pixels are part of the conquest when playing Everquest, how you go about getting them varies from person to person.
The reason Manasana is viewed critically is not because he left a guild, or that it's bad to be driven by pixels above all else. We all know players like this and it doesn't define them as bad people. The issue is how disingenuous he is about it.
Others who know the truth are annoyed, particularly when he now points out how little AG did for him, and how much he did for AG.
I would respect him more if he just said, "yeah, I love pixels, I go hard in the paint for pixels. AG helped me get what I wanted while they got what they wanted sometimes too."
Manasana, stop pretending to be some paladin of pixels that did so much for the guild you left in the dust, when you know that AG geared out all your alts over the course of time and provided you with tons of plats from selling MQ items you'd never been able to get on your own.

Since Veloci Shift and Azure Guard pieces formed a new guild and they wanted the name to have some derivation from those two sources it should have been <Veloci Guard> or <Azure Shift>.
The fact they chose to only include the part from <Azure Guard> shows how they felt about <Veloci Shift>.

he had a childs tear on him when he left AG, he MQ'ed to someone in AG, didnt keep it for himself, or sell it. And when the slime blood dropped, there were no necro mains, guild was like 1 week old, so it went to alts, he happened to have a necro alt and won the bid.

I point to this post made by AG's founder and long time leader, I think he has a better idea than you might, as to what mana did and did not do:
Manasana was fantastic for running pick up raids. That man made things happen in a big way on off nights. He was everything I ever wanted in a lower tier raid leader and provided the guild a lot of momentum on the free nights. Many druids and wizards on this server can thank him for their epic, mostly still AGers :)
Remember when we were all one family? /tears

You know there is a reason SoE kept making expansions - when there are no more pixels to pursue a small but fragile group of players go completely off the deep end and create drama and entertainment because they don't have closure/can't burn themselves out chasing the impossible. It's like losing the 4th disc to some playstation game.
With continuous content you always have a reason to help that new guy out, because there is a chance he will become like you, obsessed over the pursuit of pixels, helping you get your pixels because he owes you and it also benefits him too - until eventually screwing you over.

This whole thread, the thought in the back of my head has been:
"As bad as Azure Guard and Blood Guard may be as elf people, the worst guild on the server is Kittens Who Say Meow."
A casual guild of bad players who LITERALLY BALL-GAGS their members.
Imagine how much more fun the forums could be if we had all those shitbird kitten fucks posting here.
But instead they bend over and take the ball gag, too afraid to post in RNF and prove to the server that they're finally a guild worth noticing.
Man, no kidding. I forgot all about them!
The only way to get to them involved is to subtly troll them in server chat.
Sometimes you can get a kitten to crawl out but it doesn't take long for Spacepoop to jump into the thread waving his ball-gag high in the air before stuffing it deep into the mouth of the Kitten that dared to voice any opinion worth writing on the forums.
Also of note, subtle trolling in server chat is apt to get you banned so I would not recommend anyone doing it, regardless how great the temptation is to lure a Kitten with any sort of opinion to post on the forums.

PVP in the game isn't polished or even that good, but if the community was even remotely civil, it's a better ruleset than the pissing and hollering match on blue. Just in my opinion.
Not to say the Blue community is better, and in many ways it's much much worse.

It is 100% on the Devs to create a server that keeps a high population, not the community. Red started with bugs, cheats and soon made server rules that made the raid scene all about zerging.
You can't expect a community to go against the natural rules of the server to create an environment that is favorable for everyone. The server rules do not promote multiple competing guilds. There is no penalty on death and you can't expect the server to pretend to care about PvP death just because that makes the server better.
The issue with Red is that the rules favor zerg mentality. It is a winner takes all environment so there can only be 1 end game raiding guild. You can't have 3 guilds in an area trying to do a first to engage. The zerg kills everyone else and takes all the content. There is no penalty on PvP death so the zerg will just overwhelm everyone else. Once the zerg wins they can sit on corpses and camp them until people get frustrated and quit for a couple days. It is why TMO had no chance on Red. Once a guild has taken the top spot there is nothing another guild can do until the number 1 guild gets banned or quits.
Top guilds:
Nihilum - banned
Holocaust/Empire - banned/quit
Apex - Current guild
Current issue with Red that will never be fixed by a community:
60 members of a guild looking at 20 members of a competing guild full of vets and highly skilled players. The 60 know they could take the 20 but might suffer 2-3 deaths a piece until their zerg finally overwhelms the 20. The zerg will not hesitate to throw away 2-3 deaths each to beat the 20, so the tight group of highly skilled 20 members eventually join the zerg if they want to do content and progress their character. You have to join the zerg no matter how much you dislike them or you just quit the server.
There is a way to fix it.
You can have item loot so small PvP guilds that focus on high kill/death ratios have something to do. This promotes anti-pk guilds. Top guilds wanting to zerg will not work because the losers that keep dieing over and over to get a dragon will lose items.
You can also hardcode it with teams but there still has to be some penalty on PvP death. Even with hardcoded teams people must have a need to protect their team from deaths.

I played on Red during Live (Rallos Zek), talking early RZ when they can loot your weapons. Even after disallowing weapon loot, item loot was a huge barrier to entry. Worked my ass off to get a bronze breastplate on my warrior, got like nuked out in the karanas before my group knew what was up and some naked wiz or whatever loots my BP (probably right into a bag, so retribution is impossible).
It was super stressful and in the end I gave up and joined a blue server, made it to maybe level 34 on a human warrior. I had some fun times hunting griefers in the early levels around crushbone and steamfont, but it got annoying as you progressed and your item values increased.
Other guildies that played zek recalled melee's bagging their gear when their HP started dropping too low. No Drop loot for melee's was real hard to come by early.
Maybe item loot helps in the situation you're describing (at the end game), but I think it would make a huge barrier to entry for new players. Even twinking a character will be tougher (no fungis, haste, crafted / dropped armor sets would be safe). Maybe a hybrid of allowing item loot only 55+ (if you the killer are 55+ and the slain are also 55+).
I still think this presents balancing problems, people at the top as you say will stay at the top with better no-drop items (haste, big resist pieces, etc) as the lower levels try to claw their up in junkier gear.

Item loot doesn't work in Velious because of too much no drop gear.
It is perfect for classic/kunark with the best gear not being no drop gear but still having enough no drop pieces if you are scared to wear other gear.
In Kunark the items aren't game breaking either.
Another option is to make it less harsh by only allowing open inventory items not in containers, earrings, rings, necklace and bracers slots be lootable. This covers most resist gear through Kunark and allows melee/hybrid to maintain their AC/weapons.

I started on RZ, went to SZ, then to Zek. Never in the whole time did I lament later on that you couldn't loot gears.
It's not about being able to loot their gear but if the person with the upper hand is risking nothing and the peon is losing their gear for losing a fight they can't win it is no longer fun.
You can basically lose gear up until you are BIS and then everything is no drop once Velious hits. It takes out the skill in PvP and makes the people who raid hardcore too powerful.
In an emulator with lower population you would feel this much more than you did back on live when there were a lot more players at your level. It wouldn't be like that on Project 1999. A server like that would be very top heavy with a lot of grief towards new players.

Add item loot.
Add a No Drop destroy function. Instead of being able to loot one item, you can select one no drop item to destroy
Add Bag loot function. You loot the bag and destroy any no drop items in said bag when looting it.
This should fix red for sure. People can't hide behind bagging their items, and can't hide behind no drop geared toons.

For whatever reason the population is low on Red, and this is the biggest issue. There's no way to fix this at this point.
Not enough plebs will start fresh on red now, so the uphill battle is and will always remain impossibly steep for anyone wanting to try red.
Even if someone manages to get to 60 on red, the dismally low population again is an issue, because it's not much fun fighting the same 10-20 people.
It's not much fun raiding and gaining gears only to not have any real guild wars etc.
The problems Red faces are so multifaceted and deep it's simply an impossible battle to fight, that being making red populated and a fun place for people who enjoy larger scale PVP fights.
It really seems best for people who want uncontested raid mobs, and a faster PVE leveling grind.
I actually am surprised no hardcore PVE raiders do not go to Red for this purpose. If one major raid guild or large group of players migrated to red, perhaps that would bring others too.
Red pilgrims could always adopt the political system that RZ and Zek had, the mentality that PVP was bad and only guild wars were to be allowed.
The players themselves implemented this system, and enforced it heavy-handedly branding anyone that randomly attacked others as a PK, whereas the 90% of other players called themselves "Antis" which was short for anti-player killers.
Anyone branded a PK was subjected to shunning and ostracized, not allowed to join any of the major raid guilds.
This kept 90-95% of the players in check and removed random ganking. Persoally I hated "antis," and I felt they ruined the server by NOT allowing PVP on a PVP game. I was not the majority though in this thinking, as antis were far more common than PKs.

Current Server
I agree there is nothing that can be done to make Red99 better. If a new raiding guild migrated to Red99 they would be smoked no matter how good you think they are. Item loot or any other rule change on Red99 isn't going to save a Velious locked PvP server this late into the game.
RZ and Zek mentality
It wasn't the players that adopted some amazing code that made a tough system manageable. The rules made dieing very harsh so players banded together out of fear. It was the server rules that made the community what it was. There is no penalty for death on Red99. People don't care if others get killed because it isn't a big deal. Guilds aren't looked at as PK or anti-PK because killing someone isn't bad on that server.
Red99 Launch
Red99 had a lot of things go wrong at launch but they had exp penalty with PvP death. I don't like that system as much as item loot but it did at least create guilds with personality. There were griefer guilds and anti grief guilds. The population tanked for all sorts of reasons:
Top guild banned
Guards not assisting and people being griefed within minutes of starting their character
Rampant cheating and exploits that made everyone that didn't utilize them once they were fixed feel cheated
Classic level exp on a server that badly needed increased exp rates with PvP making leveling harder
150-200 population is actually great for a PvP server in classic-kunark but during Velious you really need 300-400 to make it fun. Red99 isn't going to hit 300-400.

Sounds like red would benefit with a relaunch every so often. Give new folks a chance to start on a even playing ground and give new and old folks a chance to race to the top.
Honestly if they relaunched red and kept the nice xp modifier I would jump on and play for a bit.
On the rule set, there are probably some interesting things that could be done in raid zones such as harsh unrecoverable (via res) xp losses.
You could do some stuff to mitigate no drop stuff - depending on what it is, tie it to a pp value and have that drop instead, or return it to the mob it came from - and it would become a guaranteed drop (and let the server know this target now has some extra loot) Maybe for certain classes like casters have a potential of losing a spell.
Probably shit ideas.
Also, changing all the rules would be pretty 'unclassic' though so at that point you might as well make a totally new PVP server locked to velious?
I never played PVP on LIVE - are the issues Red is experiencing the same sort of issues LIVE had?

During this era it wasn't an issue because the PvP servers were either item loot or hard coded teams. They also didn't have the issue with the server being stuck at Velious 4 years after launch with a very small population.
Trying to make everything classic with awful timelines, locked progression and a much smaller population is a huge fail. Someone that has some good insight on potential effects of certain server rules needs to make good judgement calls on some custom rules.
Unfortunately the few with good insight are rarely the same few with the means to code and create the servers. P99 has done a good job of keeping their judgement out of it and just trying to copy what was already done back in 1999. All the other servers where devs have made custom rules and content have been awful so who knows if that balance of classic and custom will ever be done correctly.

yeah, in that case they should just reset the Red server on a timer after velious has been unlocked. Maybe do a extra large XP modifier during the first month after the reset to encourage new players. I suppose this could upset all 30 of the Red regulars?
Personally I think they should do something similar for blue but you'd probably see blue go up to PoP before they reset.

I haven't seen any good proof this is true. I wouldn't be surprised if the GMs are lying when they say they will do stuff once the Velious timeline is completed but I also don't believe the restrictions from Daybreak are as harsh as you mention, if they exist at all.

It's a volunteer staff working on their hobby. They don't have any deadlines. Their work schedule is "when I feel like it". (And we should thank them for working on it in their free time). So custom content will come in 2025, if ever.

Server reset = Multiple GMs, Including the big 2 have said on multiple occasions that P99 is a server where your character does not get wiped... Unless you are some RMT scum, and even then I think they still exist... somewhere...
New server = When all content has run it's course (AND ONLY THEN) will the GMs talk about opening the next server ( a lot of this info is asked at least once per sirken stream tbh )
Possible new servers:
a- Discord server -- Perma-death (with maybe item loot??). This one is on the main burner compared to the rest that have been spitballed, but honestly if I wanted to play a dated griefing simulator, I'd install RUST (burn)
b- PvP Teams -- This seems a little more fun, but a good PvP server will eventually have a few teams, though making a race based / good/evil based distinction seems less balanced, less fun, and harder. to avoid Tl;Dr with the negatives, I'm just gonna cop out and say this will end up as red 2.0.
c- Green 99 -- The fact that the first 2 options that are brought up are PvP makes me cringe at the thought of the state of our current red server. This is the promised land of every EQ blue bird who missed 'The Good Ol' Days' and didnt RMT (yes, we know they dont catch all of you but that doesnt stop the players who have been here a while from knowing those of you who havent gotten caught yet). Let me just say before I get too far off topic with my salty nature -- This server will (allegedly) be after all content has been released and with the patches and updates to occur accurately within the timeline. Essentially all previous servers are beta testing ground for this new green 99.... someday. How this works - I dunno? but the talk is that eventually we will have a timeline that resets every 3 years or so.
New content = This can only come after all patches have been.... GDI I sound like a broken record, this is all a moot topic until chardok 2.0 released... But.... They talked about Project M as custom content, so either there arent fresh Ideas, or they want to flesh that one out, which could be good.
Alright back to bashing on AW or BDA or whatever.

Can't believe we never got a final season.
It still has true detective s1 level script and acting
I need to go back and watch it again
I’m more bitter about Carnivale. I really enjoyed that show. I could see how a lot of people would hate it though
r u for real with this
TDS1 one of the best of all times.
My current list of cinematic experience is:
Finish the Wire
Training Day
Baby Driver
Maybe i'll put deadwood on the end of that list.
Keep in mind, whatever I'm currently watching will take control of me and influence everything you read on p99 boards so it's important i'm kept in the dank
I’m very cautious about what I compare to td1
Deadwood is definitely up there

Deadwood has amazing acting and writing, but the storytelling could be far better. Was a little disjointed at times, especially S2.
The new show "Westworld" was phenomenal though, arguably on the level of TDS1. I love existential shit so maybe was just my cup of tea.
Penny Dreadful was pretty awesome too, if you enjoy high-drama's and the frankenstein/wolfman/dracula content. The ending to the series was horrible though, the writer should be burnt on the stake for that one.

I didn't notice any disjointed story after watching the series around 4 times, but due to the fact I watched the series around four times, I cannot be trusted with total objectivity here. :)
And yeah, Westworld was fucking amazing! Too bad season 2 is a ways away (sometime 2018 I believe).
Rome was also solid. I have secret hopes that NBC's Hannibal will be brought to HBO and continued, but that ain't gonna happen.

Still haven't read a critical synopsis of season 2 that said anything beyond "it's too complicated". I liked the hell out of the first season but I thought the second was on a higher level - it obviates anyone incapable of following a difficult plot, which is more or less the premise of a good story in my book.

It's well documented, and stated by Nic Pozzolatto himself that TDS2 was rushed. I've also watched it numerous times. I'm not sure what you're seeing that is putting it on another level from TDS1. And you aren't the first person to say to me they enjoyed TDS2 better than 1. While I certainly am ok with that being your opinion, I have to respectfully completely disagree.
