View Full Version : OT Hammer Pricing

Maybe the answer is as apparent as "Puppet Strings are rare".
But Puppet strings have 10 charges. At a recharge cost of 840 platinum. So assuming only needing a single charge, it is costing the person selling OT Hammers 84 platinum.
Yet they charge 4.5k?
Those of you who sell it, I am curious how/why you justify asking 4.5k, a profit of about 53X the base cost for you. Even with 2 charges per person you are still getting a profit of 25x the base cost.
I'm guessing one of the following things:
1. It may be tough to find a recharge, IE it isn't always on hand, since they are lore and you can't box
2. Someone who has Puppet Strings clearly is wealthy, and due to that they value their time higher than some noob with only 2k. So your 'time' to Hammer there and loan it out is worth 4.5k?
3. Rich need to get richer, because science?
Just curious. Cause getting 45k off 10 OT Hammers (a full puppet string) seems pretty ridiculous to me considering the time invested by the player.

How much do puppet strings go for?
There's your answer.

An iPhone costs pennies to produce but lots of people have no problem paying $600 for one.
There may not be a high cost to do the hammer, but you have to consider the following:
* Puppet Strings cost 250k. Recharging can be a pain in the ass, and a lot of people who sell the hammers have two sets, that's 500k.
* Doing the hammer is time consuming.
* On every hammer you're taking a risk when you hand over your 250k item to a random player.
* It's a service that many people need but very few people can perform. Real life works this way too.
The 4-5k plat certainly isn't commensurate with the effort involved. I'd say it is because puppet strings are so god damned valuable.
It's like somebody bought a $100,000 machine that pumps out cans of soda that make your penis bigger, and it's the only kind of machine that does that. It's not that hard to make the machine create one, but are you going to sell them for $1? Hell no, you'd have to sell 100,000 sodas to even equal the value of your machine and nobody has time for that.

Sounds like investing in a puppet string would be wise. Sell 50 OT hammers and you break even!
And regarding the trust thing mentioned earlier... If someone scammed one, I have a strong suspicion you would get it back after a petition. The GMs are pretty nice here. If not, WTB 10 OT hammers.

I usually give away 10 puppet strings once a month out of pocket.

Yeah dont worry about the:
Market researchers that figure out what it should do.
Engineers on the front end to figure out how to make it.
Or the freight to get it to you from china.
Thank isn't included in the cost at all.

Really need to sell 100 hammers though cause unless you have nice friends you will have to have 2 pairs of strings to keep recharging.

Yeah, unless someone keeps your 200k strings when you trade them away to some random level 50 in no guild who you've never heard of before in exchange for his 5k or whatever.

Oops, posted early. Maybe you'd get an item back. But still, maybe you wouldn't. Quite a risk. And then there is potentially the risk of recharging. Server goes down while your strings are on a merchant? Sad times :(

Two Puppet Strings = ~500k
If you're only buying one, then how do you recharge? Begging someone else to recharge for you? That's gonna cost you. And hard to find.

There aren't too many people with 250k to throw around that are guildless or friendless. Generally, I would assume friends help each other recharge. I'm sure each big guild on the server has either a recharge toon or a person with several fully charge items on an alt.

The allure charm has a chance of failing, I have had them fail 2-3 charges before even with enchanter tash, and giving the charmer a CHA buff, charging 4.5k for not having to go through the work of factioning is a very reasonable price, it saves you hours of killing those sarnak and turning in braids. Having to pay 200+ k for each pair is most likely the reasoning also to charge more than the cost of recharge. even with 4.5k pricing it will take more than 100 charges to make your money back on 2 pairs. Also, there isn't a risk of someone taking them, I have spoken with Sirken and he told me if someone chose to take them it would be considered a scam for a fair service and they could get banned for it and you would get your puppet strings back.

I sell 0-3 hammers on average a day.
But I have to sit in EC for hours upon hours.
I probably could make more plat doing HS(if I stop dieing in there) or maybe FBSS(Catherin route)
It's a good supplemental income.
To me its like selling weed on the side of a real job, its not gonna make me rich or anything but it gives me some spending cash every now and then.

I'm sure the GMs here would do something if someone attempted to steal the Puppet Strings while doing the OT hammer. It's still not fun having to deal with CSR and waste the GMs' time because someone thought they could get away with scamming you.

AFAIK the braid faction turn in is slower on here then it was on live. 4-5k for this hammer is well worth the time invested.

I have no problem paying 5k for a hammer. compared to other items on the server that's cheap as hell IMO. Well worth it. Can make up that money and some farming in the time it takes to do braids.

it's just the price mofo. For anyone considering getting an OT hammer, 5k should not be that big of a deal. people who have the puppet strings have found a demand in the market from people not wanting to farm sarnak00 for 2 days just so they can turn in the hammer.
5k - recharge cost (lets call it 800pp)
4.2k - time spent in EC (anywhere from 1-4 hours)
Time spent waiting on the nub to get to OT ~30 mins+
For all the hassle of going through this process, I'd say a person selling an OT hammer will only make about 1-2k an hour. It's not that much, esp. not for someone rich enough to have the puppet strings.
I would just be glad that so many people have been offering the service recently, so that you don't have to bust your ass on sarnak anal beads.

This is your answer. When the question is, "why does a hammer cost 5k?" the answer "B-b-b-b-b-b-because I'm t-t-t-oo b-b-busy looking for an excuse to charge you 5k."
Piss on that. Plenty of people own strings and give away Hammers for free. The only people charging money for it to random people **are the people who are scummy and greedy enough to 'risk' their puppet strings when they know full well that they would be reimbursed.**
