Game Mechanics: Food/Drink consumption rates

Lately the consumption rates of food and drink have seemed pretty off for me.

I can buy rations and water flasks that used to last the same amount of time, yet I'm sitting here in Guk with 0 food and 7 water (as one specific example).

Others have corroborated with their own anecdotal stories over the past few days.

Were some numbers changed somewhere accidentally or was this on purpose?
