Default Swarm Kiting Rats in PoM - impossible/possible?

Bard swarm kiting in PoM.

I was wondering if anyone has ever tried this and could weigh in on the feasibility or lack thereof.

It seems like it would be very difficult as you are pulling through very narrow hallways and with no ideal place to actually perform the killing once you have the rats gathered. Though, I suppose, the "lava" pool in the rat maze could possibly work?

Not a PoM expert but feels like this would fit in the same category as CoM where its technically an outdoor zone but feels/plays more like a dungeon and therefore bard swarm kiting isn't allowed due to potential for zone disruption.

I've never seen a bard swarm kiting PoM rats, and I leveled two chars to 60 there. If you knew the layout really well, you probably could pull them into the lava pit room and kite them like you said. But I agree with WarpathEQ, this seems like zone disruption. Not sure if this is the case in 2026, but often times there would be at least 1 other person killing rats in the maze.

The thing about PoM rat maze is you need to move around to find kills, you aren't staying in one spot and pulling to it. So if someone else is killing rats, you aren't going to know where they are. This means it is easier to accidentally train someone who is fighting a rat, because there isn't a specific camp location you can purposely avoid.

It's doable in the lava room.. but as others have said there is a potential to be flagged for swarming in a dungeon area. They are on a 72 minute respawn, so you'd effectively be locking down most of the rat spawns in order to accomplish this - something that would definitely upset someone who happens to log in the middle of your swarm and see no (or little) rats available to them for the next 72-100 minutes.

I've seen people doing it, but it's technically illegal. I just moved on though. Even if they weren't swarming, the rat maze is only big enough for 1 person at a time, so it was basically the same as another chanter being there.

Right. I do remember reading something about this when I was reading up on what constitutes a camp. Is there an actual list or someplace you can read which technically outdoor zones are considered dungeons?

Hmm, I think two (non-bards) could easily exp continuously on either side of the rat maze and not run out of mobs. When leveling my enchanter, shaman and druid there I found that I typically ran out of rats once a third person stepped into the maze.

I am in Europe and during my day-time on weekdays sometimes the zone is empty. That is when I would want to try it.

My guess would be that you don't utilize the entire maze but I am happy to be proven wrong. Most mobs in PoM have a 70 minute (and not 72 as is a popular misconception) respawn time. If you on average spend 2 minutes pr rat kill (you may say that's a smidge high but that also has to take into account charm breaks and running + setting up for next rat pet etc.) then there would have to be fewer than 35 rats in total in the entire maze for you to run out before respawns. That's also assuming you have zero down time ever - which is completely unrealistic. Any added downtime means fewer than 35 rats if you actually are clearing the entire rat maze alone.

I have never actually counted (and I don't expect I can find the drive to do so) and I am not sure if 35 is a high or low number with regards to total number of rats. It doesn't seem way off but I really don't know.

It might be that I was doing it wrong on my chanter. My method was to charm a pet, send it in, use low-level slow on the target rat and/ epic to haste my pet to manage the hp of both so that they were getting low at more or less the same rate. Then when they were both low I would click goblin ring to break charm and use Dementia and/or Anarchy (to minimize mana used) to nuke both down, then repeat that.
