when can a pet proc weapon?

Gnoll hide lariat procs at lvl25 I think. So if I am giving one to my pet and want it to proc does my PET have to be lvl25 or does the caster (me) have to be 25?

Same with that stave that procs lifetap?

The pet needs to be of appropriate level.

What are the best pet weapons and when are they most effective / do they start procing? A high damage weapon is only a good idea at lower levels ya?

I am thinking in terms of a magician if that matters.

I would start looking at weapons any melee class can use at low levels. Polished Granite Tomahawk and more....

There are a few that are nice, Gnoll Lariat is a favourite.

Oh wait, that lifetap is pretty lame. Just a few hit points. Isn't there a stave that has a big boy lifetap proc? Can't remember what it was called. I think it is cheap enough to use as a pet weapon...

Deadwood stave from kaesora. Proc at 30 or 35 I believe. They uncommonly drop off trash, you can see them holding it.
