Game Mechanics: Two-hander Damage Bugged:

According to the wiki, your damage is calculated as:

For me, a 31 Warrior, with 160 Offense and 123 Strength, using a Langseax of the Wolves, my damage should look like this:

((160 + 123) / 100 * 19) + 2 = ~55.7 damage

However while testing tonight in 248 hits I only ever hit over 40, 9 times. One of which was because a guildie came by and buffed my strength, which resulted in a whopping 46 damage.

The number of times I hit for exactly 40 damage against a wide range of mobs, a wide range of levels, was 123 times. The most I could organically hit for was 44, well below the formula's expected maximum hit value. And I only ever hit 44 twice in almost 250 attacks against mostly level ~1-3 mobs.

So either the formula stated in the wiki is fairly incorrect, a factor outside of Offense and Strength is included in damage, or specifically 2 handed damage is bugged. Comparatively, my 1-hander damage aligns exactly with the formula's expected damage output, so if its off for 1-handers it's unnoticeable.

I was assured by a multitude of devs that weapon skill rating has no impact on your damage, but I'll be continuing to raise my skill to see if my maximum damage per hit increases over time.

Am I missing something crucial here? People suggested maybe AC plays a factor, but mitigating ~15 damage per hit? Consistently? Over 100 times across mobs level 1 to 24? I can't imagine a level 2 spider has the same AC as a level 24 and that it absorbs ~20% of the damage you should be doing but only with 2-handers and not 1-handers, so I don't believe that's the case.

Strength is clearly working, as going from 123 strength to ~145 strength added 6 damage to my average hit or 2 damage to my maximum hit, but something isn't adding up correctly here which may result in 2-handers being artificially worse than they should be.

Here are all 248 hits for data below: (Across this testing my skill raised by about 10 points from ~60 to ~70 and showed no noticeable difference in damage)

That's probably the issue. The wiki is frequently wrong either way.

Even in the article you're referencing, before the algorithm is given, it says this:

So what they're referencing is EQEmu code. There is no way to know if the P99 devs have changed that algorithm at all.

Even if you find a dev talking about the P99 damage formula from a long time ago, it's also possible that it's changed since then.

2x weapon damage + damage bonus(if any) + str mod = your cap on P99. This is not an exact formula, just my observation, and one I remember holding true in classic also.

The wiki is probably just wrong. It's player created, not official.

I guess even if this is the case though something still feels wrong here? I have more strength with my 2-hander than I do with my 1-hander, but checking these logs suggest the 1-hander consistently gets the strength bonus not only more often but for higher amounts.

Comparatively, using a 6 damage 1HB and accounting for low-crits that resulted in these numbers, for all of yesterday my hit distribution of "2*DMG + Bonus" or higher was...

Maybe I need a larger sample size, but even in a drastically smaller sample size, my 1-hander is consistently hitting somewhere between 14-20 damage.

I guess I'm just confused why with a 2-hander I'm not seeing a similar distribution, this data would suggest that somehow my 120 STR contributes somewhere between 1 and 6 damage at a fairly low chance, but I expect to see that contribution on the 2-hander at a somewhat similar amount.

I'll spend some time today after work bopping more things with the 2-hander to see if it ever gets up above 44. If this is the case I should be able to hit for 46 as a maximum (the 46 in the initial set of data should be omitted because I was provided a strength buff for that hit).

Just wanted to circle back to this, apparently weapon damage on Green is influenced by your weapon skill, not your Offense skill.

As I've raised my 2HS skill rating, no differences in other stats, my damage has steadily been consistently increasing.

Unsure of what the formula is, but it's for sure nothing to do with Offense, otherwise I would've been hitting significantly harder more often way earlier than this and my Offense hasn't increased much relative to my 2HS but the damage has significantly increased.
