Default Anarchy in the UK

Not quite on a lvl with punk music, but RPG was seen by some as being the down fall of a generation. Going hand in hand with video games and violent videos.

YOU all could of been NORMAL if this ban had comeinto effect. Take some time to think what life outside of your fantasy existeance would have been like....

In an era of potent concern over internet pornography, cyber-bullying, and drugs, it is hard to imagine a game being controversial. But 30 years ago Dungeons & Dragons was the subject of a full-on moral panic, writes Peter Ray Allison
Slow news day, and no it wasn't.

I remember a big shock horror moment as "The Beastie Boys" had come across from America and created a panic with their "You've got to fight for your right to party" single. Edgy, and designed to grab headlines for the time - they did really well. Morning TV gulped it down, getting the religious in to shame it etc.

ohnoes.

Still, better D&D and 80s music etc than Justin Bieber and stealing dad's credit card to get a shinier looking WoW mount.

Yeah, it definitely was not "full-on panic." Most people remained ignorant and didn't care one way or the other. Most of the rest were fairly supportive, even if they did consider it weird. Only the real whack-jobs were in panic mode.

Same shit, different day, really.

Today, billions (with a "B") play Call of Duty and other first person shooters with zero problems and one of them snaps and shoots up a school and people start freaking out about "violent video games." One nutcase out of billions...One is more likely to win the lottery, go to prison, be struck by lightning, or die in an air or auto accident than to be the victim of, much less actually become, a player of violent video games who snaps and actually shoots people. But those things don't scare people like games do, for some reason.

Yet, this is what we do. It's easier to blame entertainment for everything because looking at the real causes of problems is just a tad too painful for too many of us. Like being a shitty parent, for example.

And as was mentioned, there's always X amount of news everyday so they have to talk about something when there isn't anything to talk about.

there was a recent study published that said poor game mechanics and controls led to more violent outbursts from players than those that had well set up mechanics and controls while playing violent video games.

Guilty! :P

There's no reason to make a bad game in this day and age. Yet, here we are. LOL

Graphics keep getting better and better...Games get stupider and dumbed down. There were games 30 years ago that were, basicly, blocks doing things to other blocks that played better than most of the shit now. Doesn't make you want to kick a hole in a wall? Every time I try a new game these days, I feel like I'm that redneck kid on "Wifeswap" or whatever raging about not getting to eat bacon.

Not long ago my friend was marvelling about how his kid could get so engrossed in Minecraft. "It looks like shit from 20+ years ago!" he said.

Gameplay, my friend. Gameplay.
