Default Project 1999 Best of the Best Guidelines

Dates to start July 14-15. We will try and do Necros and Shamans on the 14th and then Ranger and Rogue on the 15th. Depending on how many people will sign up for the event is how many classes we are able to do. A later date will be planned for the rest of the classes.

================================================== ================================================== ======

Spectator and General Rulings

Level Restrictions: 54-60 are only to be signed up for each class. Sign up period will start on the June 24th till July 8th for Shaman, Necro, Rangers, and Rogues. In order to sign up you need to Private Message me with a message that looks like the following

Title : Shaman: Name: Level
or
Title Necromancer: Name :Level

If you are below the level limit, but think you will attain level 54+ before the matches you can sign up for the event. In the chance you don't make the level limit, your entrance will be thrown out, and you won't be able to compete.

I will respond back to each request. If you don't get a response by the day before the deadline petition in game or get a hold of Amelinda. Any entries after July 1st won't be added.

================================================== ================================================== ======

Anyone found attacking a GM or Guide may be banished from the Arena or death touched without warning.

The Arena is off limits to unauthorized PvP 15 minutes before and 15 minutes after the event. This is to ensure that the contestants and spectators are safe.

Spectators shall remain seated and not casting during the match. Any spell casting shall be considered aimed at a participant, and either harmful or helpful to someone in the match.

Anyone who casts any spells (including Bard songs) during a match can be death touched and removed from the Arena.

Spectators shall not use /shout for any reason, but use /ooc instead. This is so that those involved in the match can use /shout, and the /ooc channel can be turned off to reduce distraction to the contestants involved. Use of /shout at anytime can result in a silence command being issued, rendering the player unable to use any form of communication, or banishment from the Arena.

Spectators shall not interfere with this event. Severe penalties are used only when directly attacking a player involved in the match, attacking a judge during the match, or healing a player involved in a match.

The P99 staff may limit the amount of people in the zone to control conditions of lag or frame rate for the participants. The event shall start open seating, but may close off at any time. The Event Staff may use any sort of decision on who stays and who leaves to ensure the event is a success. This should not be implemented until a minimum of 150 players in the zone has been reached.

AoE Spells ARE allowed in game. This has the potential of killing off some of the younger spectators. If you are killed by one of these spells, please wait for a GM or Guide to give you a summons into the Arena.

General Combatant Rules

The top of the throne, in the throne, or behind the throne is off limits to the combatants during the matches. The four firepots are also off limits to the combatants. Use of these areas in match combat will lead to contestants being disqualified.

Starting positions are allowed anywhere that is legal (meaning not on the throne or in firepots) that is on your half of the tiles.

All participants will be debuffed before the match.

Weapons with the following spell effects attached to them will not be allowed in Best of the Best Series; Knockback, Fear, Invisibility, and Shrink.

Rogues can use poisons, the only limit not allowed are those that can blind.

The use of "Right Click" items is not permitted, unless specifically stated otherwise in the Class Specific Rules.

The following spell types may not be used in any of the Best of the Best Series:

Any form of Fear or Charm unless directed at a pet.

Any type of Blind spells

Gravity Flux or Invert Gravity

Any type of gate or translocation spell (Example shadow step)
The following item types will not be allowed in the Best of the Best Series:

Any type of Artifact items

Any type of regeneration effect items. (Example Fungi Tunic)
The event staff, Due to the amount of contestants, may decide to split the combat area in half. The arena in this case will be divided making two battle areas for 2 matches to be performed at one time.

In the event that the combat exceeds 15 minutes of real time, then the Event Staff may cast an AoE Snare spell on the contestants, and the contestants are to remain snared till end of match.

The owner of the account must play the character, no "Ringers" will be allowed.

Any use of exploits or bugs will result in immediate disqualification from the event.

Class Specific Rules/Rewards

There is no entry fee for this event, and the only prizes will be titles awarded to the winners. The grand champion shall have his level 60th title given to him. Title for the 2nd place will be be the level 56 title and 3rd place will get the level 51.

A 30-second buffing period will be given before direct combat in the match.

All Armors and Weapons available to the contestant's class will be allowed. Unless it has an effect stated in General Combat rules as unusable.

All spells are allowed during this event. Unless stated to be Disallowed in General Combat rules.

These rules were used in the BoTB matches on live. Some servers did a few things differently, but this is the guide lines we will follow.

http://web.archive.org/web/200304062..._april2001.jsp

================================================== ===

****Rules can and most likely be adjusted. After watching the Warrior and Monk BoTB, most of them are wearing fungi tunics. I'm inclined not to allow them. Also in the Monk BoTB, they aren't using 2handers. So Monks may go fist/1handers only. I await staff input on this one.

You will be able to use epics. Epics that have a right click effects, won't be allowed to be right clicked before, or during the matches. ****
================================================== ===
================================================== ===
The order of classes that will fight are

1) Necros
2) Shaman
3) Ranger
4) Rogue
5) Monk
6) Mage
7) Bard
8) Warrior
9) Wizard
10) Paladin
11) Shadow Knight
12) Clerics
13) Enchanters
14) Druid
================================================== ===

Clerics, Enchanters will have different events besides 1v1 attacking. I'm trying to track down what was used, what the rules were and such for those events.

Clerics will follow:

Quote:
Class Specific Rules
There is no entry fee for this event, and the only prizes will be titles awarded to the winners.
A 30- Second buffing period will be given before the start of the match.

All Armors and Weapons available to the contestants will be allowed. Unless it has, an effect stated in the General Combat rules as unusable.

The Cleric Epic Weapon (Water Sprinkler of Nem Ankh) is allowed, yet their right click effect will not be used in this event.

The object of each Cleric is to kill the opposing Cleric or the opposing Cleric’s Gladiator. The contestants may engage the opposing Gladiator with spells but not melee, they may engage the opposing cleric with spells or melee anytime after the fight command is issued during the event after the 30 second buffing period.

Each Cleric will have an equally equipped and statistically setup Gladiator played by a representative of the Event Staff. The Gladiator will not move, unless due to spells cast on them and combat the character is forced backwards and out of combat range. If the Gladiator has moved out of combat range, they will immediately move forward to return to combat range.

Immediately before the buffing session the Gladiator will stand in the center of the combat area, they will use auto attack at the fight command being issued by the Event Staff and continue to do so until dispatched by the opposing Gladiator or Cleric. The Clerics may buff themselves or their Gladiator as well as heal their Gladiator as needed.

When a Cleric defeats the opposing Gladiator or opposing Cleric, they win the match.

The gladiators will be level 45 ogre warriors equipped in fine steel plate, armed with Electrum Bladed Wakazashis. They will not communicate with the players.

You may cast on the gladiator, the opposing gladiator, and the opposing cleric. You may not use any form of fear, other than on a hammer pet. You can't use any form of blind on the opposing gladiator. You may not engage a hammer pet on the opposing gladiator.

You may melee the opposing cleric.

You can't use Death Pact or Divine Intervention on the opposing gladiator, if you do you should lose for being stupid.

Mages will follow:

Quote:
Mage Combatant Rules

The owner of the account must play the Magician, no “Ringers” will be allowed.

There is no entry fee for this event, and the only prizes will be titles awarded to the winners.

Both magicians will be summoned out of the zone, and summoned back before the start of the match to clear any previous bugs with permanent spell effects.

Both magicians, once debuffed and resummoned shall be asked if they are ready for the match to start. Once the match starts, a timer will start of 30 seconds that the magicians are allowed to cast on themselves, and quickly rememorize the spells. During this time pet spells and any non-offensive spells will be allowed, pets will not be allowed to attack until after the 30 seconds.

The judge of the match will count down on every 5-second interval until the time is up, at that time offensive spell casting maybe used. Mana used for buffs will not be restored. The offensive spells start at the 30-second mark regardless if mage is ready for the next stage.

An explosion and a verbal statement will start the 30-second period, and also the start of the match. A single “Fault” will be allowed (Casting before the explosion), and an event warning (not an official warning) be given to the offender. A second “Fault” per match is disqualification.

Both magicians shall stay on the tiled area at all times, you may not stand on or behind the firepots. You may not stand on or in the throne. Binding in the ring and gating to a different part of the ring is no longer allowed in any VI Event.

The 60th lvl Banishment spell has been disallowed for this event.

All items and armor available to the magician class will be allowed in this event.

No activatable items of any kind shall be used in the match. This includes any right click items.

If anyone has any questions or concerns please feel free to ask.

IIRC, in the original BotB's the only people allowed in the arena were the two that were dueling. The reason was so that the winners of each bracket couldn't see what the winner of a previous bracket did to win (or winners of future brackets).

There was always the possibility that the loser would tell his/her friends but for the most part it seemed to work well.

Enchanters were summoned into the arena that was blocked off to spectators. Others were open to the public to watch.

I went and watched several different servers to see the different strategies being employed in the druid botb, at the very least.

I wasn't sure if it was all, or just enchanters. I was in the enchanter botb so I knew that was combatants only. I did think everyone was treated the same,,, going to see if I can dig up something.

I also assumed all because some of the same concepts could be used by everyone [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

edit: clarified my thoughts a bit
