Anyone who played on live know, did anyone even do VP in kunark era with the quest this difficult? Looking at the timeline, people had 7-8 months to hit 60, figure out this quest even exists, how to do it, and key enough people to even attempt it. Or was it mostly done in Velious?
I see a lot of people camping this for 40-80 hours, a lot of the ground spawns are 8 hour timers, a lot of the other mobs are 8 hour timers or equally as rare (according to the wiki) as pained soul, Trak only spawned once a week-ish and only drops so many teeth and the same guild isn't guaranteed to get it each time. On average, you should see each of these mobs within about 11 hours, maybe longer for VKR. So assuming everything goes average, it might take one person like 50-60ish hours to get keyed?
How did anyone actually get a raid force keyed before velious came out? Even if every single person was playing 24/7 that's only enough time to key like 70 people and odds are not all those keys are ending up in the same guild.
Was this quest easier on live than it is here?

I've often wondered the same thing. From what I remember of pre-velious kunark, most people were still figuring the quest out. People knew VP existed but I don't remember dragons actually being killed there prior to velious, at least not on my server (Povar). Epics also came out during kunark, so between all the epic quests and the VP key quest I just don't see how any single guild could get enough people keyed for it.
It always drives me nuts how short of a timeline kunark got considering how much content there is. I remember it being advertised as "You can level 1-60 without ever leaving kunark!", which is true, and then like... 8 months after kunark launch velious comes out.
From a business perspective I can see why the devs wanted to keep cranking out new content, but I really wish kunark got a full year. If they ever launch another green it would be really cool if they just made it a nice simple one year for vanilla, then one year for kunark, then velious can go however long.
Or if not that, it would be cool if a new green followed the original launch schedule (vanilla coming out in march), cause then velious comes out during the actual winter like it did originally, for maximum nerd immersion factor.
