I personally would like to say that your opening message brought on a sigh of relief. We are a collection of misfits who are eager, passionate, and opinionated - which makes managing the server more difficult than it should be and a thankless endeavor.

What has drawn and kept me around Project 1999 is simultaneously both the joy and nostalgia this game brings me as well as it's captivating and competitive raid scene.
Back in 2001 it was 'us vs Brad' but in most of the current iterations of Everquest it has revolved around ensuring everyone gets their toys so there are no fights in the sandbox.

That's not what EQ ever was and that is not why I think people continue to play and return to Project 1999. This server has a ruleset that provides a dynamic playing field for guilds and players to compete not simply via their strategic creativity but additionally their capability at managing people and their organization as a whole. Bot sheets, recruitment, environment, economies, etc. It may be over the top more times than not, but it's what separates the experience from any other TLP or EqEmu server and is mostly why I think P99 has been the gold standard. Uncompromising.

As long as players feel we have server leadership that isn't going to change the lines on the field or reconsider how many points a touchdown should count for on a whim, I think we're in a great place. I believe that's what you've inferred thus far - clear and as simplistic guidelines as possible so that everyone can believe they had a fair shake and we aren't redefining and reinterpreting basic mechanics or agreements to accommodate a narrative.

If the server leadership, as you're describing, can commit to that environment...I believe behavior will adapt we'll all be the better for it. The community deserves more than a handful of adults typing out essays weekly about a perceived infraction that escalates into a debate where arguments are based on justification instead of responsibility.

Thank you for taking on the additional work, burden and responsibility of managing us knuckleheads.

-D

Default Wipe?

Loved reading your post. I've been on and off P99 for a long time. It's really daunting to get back in to at this point. I'm not going to ask for any concrete plans for a wipe, but rather I woud like to ask just how open to the idea are you? I think this server accomplished it's main mission and provides the best classic EQ experience out there. I get people have dedicated their time to their characters at this point. But just imagine if we applied everything we've learned since launch and started at the beginning fresh and really applied the timeline through Velious as accurate as possible. Either way best of luck to you.
