![]() So I don't know if anyone's checked the Recent Changes page of the p99 wiki lately, but it's been under a constant inundation of attacks by spam bots. Last I checked there were over 500 new pages created by them in the last 10 days alone, all of which full of dangerous links to scam sites.
I've been flagging them for deletion where I can but I really need help. Yesterday alone I cleared over 300 pages of it! D: If there's any admins for the wiki around, we really need to lock down bots from making new accounts there somehow. D: | ||

Only Rogean and Rahvin have access to the wiki's box. Rogean doesn't have time to deal with it, and Rahvin hasn't played here in years. Thus, the spamming continues. However, in response to Frission messaging him, Rahvin did (just yesterday) ban some spam accounts. Now, such bans are pointles, because the spammer doesn't re-use accounts, but it suggests he might be willing to do a more meaningful fix. Ideally that would mean adding a CAPTCHA to the wiki, but when we last spoke (six months ago) Rahvin claimed that was impossible without upgrading our MediaWiki software (and breaking our custom extensions). However he could (and hopefully will) change our security questions to the set I sent him when we last messaged. And of course, if either he or Rogean were to give me access to the box, I might be able to write a custom CAPTCHA (I hate coding in PHP, but I'd make a sacrifice for the wiki) ... but after asking for years, I'm not exactly holding my breath waiting [You must be logged in to view images. ![]() I have disabled new user registrations on the wiki, for the time being.
This should allow some time to clean up / fix any spam issues. Once there is some plan or idea on how to solve this, we can go ahead.

![]() Thank you Rahvin!
Rahvin has been retired for awhile, so many folks don't know him, but we all have him to thank for the wiki. If you like having zone pages with mob and item lists, Rahvin did that. Like the auction tracker? That was him too. And of course, he's also done countless thankless tasks (like this), and ... well, much of the wiki's data wouldn't even be there without him. Thank you Rahvin, true hero of the P99 wiki: everyone who uses it is in your debt! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
