Everything is relative, but arguably $100k a month is rookie numbers for a gaming company. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ies_by_revenue

Even the 80th company on that list (maker of series like Shadow Warrior and Serious Sam) makes $106 million annually.

Now, that's a little apples and oranges, since I think that studio has more games than Daybreak (although if you count expansions, maybe they're close?). But my point is, they're not doing all that great if their revenue is $1.2k million annually, and the 80th biggest game company is making two orders of magnitude more every year.

How many people work directly and solely on this IP?

One? Two? If someone says, "no, closer to a dozen," then where does their paycheck come from?

"Revenue of 1.2 million annually"? And that's with all the money traps the servers on live can sustain? The annual TLP krono dump?

We here do all our shit and that's because the entire mmo space is kind of like a music scene -- people driven. But it is very funky to think all the hoopla is about something that in reality barely merits two salaries worth of human labor.

100k a month is more like I would expect live to make.

He said that's 1% of it (idk where h e got that number)

But if live is making 10 million dollars a month, I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

You may take this for what it is worth. Basically, EQ drives a lot of revenue for DBG. Here's a link to a site explaining it.

I think some of the data is from this site, but it brought up a thought. What if Sony made EQ as a PS5 game? I know EQ2 existed, but imagine EQ on the PS5. A comparable game would be Elder Scrolls Online which I have played on PC and PS5. I actually liked the PS5 version better.

Ah yea the donate for rewards format, which is the same thing as a cash shop with an extra step, I don't think they set them up this way for legal reasons as much as to make it appear more legit to gullible players that would slander private servers(particularly in wow scene) as "pay to win" server. That being said I did enjoy playing there briefly, and I havent touched live in 20 years. I don't think people should witch hunt them just because they made money, especially in a non-competitive environment, but I DO understand why they might get mashed to bits in court.

For me, it wasn't just them making money - it was all the tricks and tactics they've used since the lawsuit started to remove negative comments, put on a facade towards their donors, and generally just act like grifters.

All of their arguments in court fell flat. Probably more because their lawyers were out of their league against DBG lawyers. But - they have done alot of damage to their reputation in the eyes of many by removing (mostly valid) criticisms of their business plan.

They also really sneakily, as someone here pointed out, tried to get an agreement with Daybreak by lying about the nature of The Heroes Journey.

They are grifters. They may not have started as grifters - but once the money started flowing in - they played by every rule in the grifter handbook.
