Also, cool.
Watering him always draws a bit of a crowd, which is fun. I use the time to offer some eduction to the people around because I almost always get some tourist or some kid asking “whoa, is that a Gila Monster?”. I have seen a Gila monster once on the trail a long time (years) ago, but they are super rare, and I don’t expect to see one again [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I mention to the crowd things like that Chuckwallas are notoriously brave around people. And that their self defense strategy is to wedge themselves in between rocks, puff their body up so you can’t pull them out, and whip you with their tail if you try. Sometimes Charles will start doing some push ups in place, I’m assuming to get a nice pump for the people taking pics

It did take some time of me slowly approaching while pouring water out so he can see it for him to finally accept my offering. With Charles you do have to come correct or he will run away

I guess in that regard he is like a little…

Warm up for leg day today. Race is only a few weeks away, need to start upping the distance this weekend (to at least 7 miles) and making the run be the entire workout

And also…

Oh I kicked a soccer ball back to a group of little Hispanic kids (probably around like 8ish), and so every lap they kicked a soccer ball at me to kick back

Normally I’d really enjoy that but it did slow me down and throw me off my rhythm :/

Is everyone ready for their gyms to be loaded with new people in the next few days?

"New year new me", says they.

Black and white thinking

Obesity is partially a choice and it partially isn’t. The “isn’t” part is your shitty genetics with your abnormally-always-high ghrelin hormone and your genetically-withered dead thyroid or whatever. Or the fact that you have no free time to work out. Or you had a spine injury 8 years ago and now every movement is pain. That’s not a choice

But the rest is a choice. And for most people, the choice part far outweighs the non-choice part. If there’s dudes living in 3rd world slums exposed to absurd amounts of pollution causing them 50 different health problems from birth, who still crawl or whatever their way to their job burning tires for 10 cents a day…then you can work out with your health problems and shitty genetics. The human body can adapt to quite a lot

And it is technically do or die, just on a longer timeline

I would hope someone would point out the irony if I do eventually have a heart attack and die from pushing too hard at something that is supposed to prolong my life

It's pretty fun he said the same line in two different movies.

It was the 90s you could do that kind of thing.

We take ourselves way too seriously now.
