Apparently you're looking for EQ to be Reborn. I understand that. I, too, was looking for EQ to be Reborn. Perhaps we should consult google on how EQ could be Reborn.

If you had made a new character mid-Velious on the server I played initially on live (Tunare, which opened 2 or 3 months after the initial EQ release) your experience would've been very similar. In most cases the twink gear wasn't as fancy as you see here, but it didn't and doesn't have to be to overpower the sub-20 content. p99 fails to be "classic" in myriad small details, but your complaint is not one of them. This was a big motivator for me and quite a few others who would jump on every new server that opened back in the day.

tl;dr

Sorry bud, but the situation you're complaining about is classic for the current era of the server, suck it up.

As a new player I have a few characters now, my highest being a 25 rogue.

As a new player it is retardedly hard to find a group.

East Commonlands is full of people soloing.

I went to Crushbone and the entire place was being camped by people Soloing.

Unrest is the first dungeon where I could actually count on getting a group in the evening.

You see, this server has been around for too long. Everyone is playing Alts with thousands of plat worth of gear and just soloing into their late teens or early 20's. This really fucking sucks for us new players.

Either start playing with other people or reset the damn server. Because this IS NOT HOW CLASSIC WAS. I have so many fond memories from Classic because people were so friendly and it was easy to find a group.

EDIT: Make sure to read the line in BOLD
Most of what you said is true.

this is as close as it gets to classic. The mechanics are mostly classic, but the players aren't going to pretend like they know nothing about the game just to further immerse themselves.

Seems like the classic I remember. I started playing in '00. In fact I think I recall more monk twinks back in the day.

And I think you may be exaggerating or unlucky when it comes to finding a group.

Send more tells to make duos/trios/etc. Or ask around to find for more popular dungeons.

I recently played an untwinked wizard to 25 mostly grouping until then. Nearly all of the groups I was in were ones I formed myself. If I could get groups with a wizard I'm positive you could do it with literally any other class.

I wanted to make a useful post here but its on page 12 already... I want to say this is better then classic. I never found a port in months and spent all of my classic playtime on odus / stonebrunt mtns getting to lvl 39 sk before I ever made it to ec. On our wonderful server druids all know and they are happy to accommodate you. this feature makes solo or grouping both much easier then classic guild or no guild.

"Stonebrunt Mountains" era of Everquest was not really Classic EQ. Sounds like you unfortunately never got to play real classic EQ. If you couldn't find a port, though, it's because you didn't know how. It was not hard back then to do a /who all for Wizards and Druids and get one eventually. Besides that, you could have just taken the boat to Qeynos and played in that area of the world, or ran to Freeport area after getting to decently safe level for the journey, if that's where you really wanted to be.

You mentioned that you were a Shadow Knight. Being an evil character was supposed to actually mean something in classic EQ and make traveling much more difficult. The game back then even specifically listed when making a character what the "difficultly level" of your Race/Class combination would be.

I realized that P1999 wasn't classic within my first week when I realized that I couldn't set up shop in Steamfont at the fallen gear and be within spell range of 5 skeleton spawns with a druid like I could on old retail. It was kinda sweet to easy-mode level from 9 to 12 doing the tree illusion for free health thing while doing the porcupine melee routine without moving an inch.

The Hole entrance was probably the most annoying thing for me that was different from old retail though. On old retail on Fennin Ro I could take my Magician to the entrance right out of the pool and single pull elementals to fight using my groovy anti-summon nukes for sweet experience and the odd piece of loam armor. Every elemental on both rows was spaced apart in their own nooks so that they didn't care when one behind it was pulled forward to you. Sadly, not here on P1999. That was such a great spot back in the day.

My bitching aside, it's the raid scene that defines how P1999 isn't classic by far. People are just super strange about pixels.
