And this guy has never even thought about the ramifications of creating true A.I. and the advent of technologies we can't begin to understand at this time.

Elucidate us, if you can even figure out what that word means.

I want to hear your thoughts on skynet, maybe open another thread.

what would be the point of thinking about the ramifications of things we can't begin to understand at this time?

it doesn't seem useful or even possible

It is for each of us to contemplate these ideas on our own and decide if the creation of a perfected A.I., that was not subservient to us, is the right thing to do. I believe it shouldn't be created at all.

Skynet was visionary at the time as an idea. I would not doubt that such a system could be created in the future.

my future vision of america is one where everyone has basic income becuse robots do all the work.

Time is spent on the advancement of mankind by the same % of people that already do, because what inspires creativity is desire to want to know more, not republican fiscal policy.

it's not technically against the rules but gimmick posting is extremely obnoxious. knock it off with the terminator lore.

Because this is the direction that technology is heading. Because it seems impossible now doesn't mean it's drawbacks can't be considered and they should be before the fork in the road arrives. I've not read the book itself, but I did watch a documentary on the author of "The Singularity is Near". The ideas exist already. It is just a matter of time now.

for, example, lets get this thread on track, a vietnamese nail salon could buy an autoclave for: $3,055.75 actually use it and advertise it (a small investment compared to their goofy massage chairs) and pay for itself and give old diabetic people peace of mind and charge more for their services.

But this won't ever happen because dumbs dumb, and people don't even want to educate themselves about this shit. And businesses are good at putting on a good show for poor people.

this is like the perfect metaphor for the current conservative fiscal mentality

if we can't understand the technology itself, how can we understand the consequences of it?

this is fearmongering.
