This is how it works, there are 3 reasnos to post here:

1. I hate gay & ethnic slurs, racism and homophobia is bad.
2. I dont mind racisim and homophobia, so much so that I'm going to argue that its not worth fighting against.
3. I am a racist ignorant bastard and cant act like this outside of my house so I will be damned if someone tells me I cant act like it inside of it.

Pick one, there is no 4, there is no 5 or 0... therse one of the 3... read it, and move on, take from it what you will.

You most certainly do not recall seeing a lot of racist and homophobic names in 1999, now I know you're full of shit. Guides and GM's actually CARED about enforcing naming policy when the game came out to such a degree that even humorous takes on phrases and real life references were censored. Perhaps I do have a romanticized view of how things were, or perhaps Fennin Ro wasn't nearly as bad as the servers you played on. But as a whole, people were far more friendly to each other.

I'd accredit it to roleplaying still being a heavy component of the game as well as a general lack of knowledge of mechanics, which led to a greater feeling of camaraderie because everything was mysterious and dangerous.

Also, lol @ the guy citing Fansy as a representation of the 1999 EQ playerbase.

Please explain to me how guides and GM's in 1999 stopped someone from making a level 1 char with an offensive name? I remember specifically one of the first days on EQ I saw someone named "Hitlerjewkiller" and all his corpses at the gates in FP.

Guides and GM's actually CARED about enforcing naming policy when the game came out to such a degree that even humorous takes on phrases and real life references were censored.

We have both red and blue players on these message boards. The Zek boards back in the day were far more toxic then the average server message board. Maybe some blue players aren't used to the red neanderthals.

You're judging the whole by the actions of a few? Ok, got it. If the argument was that there were a minority of vocal assholes on live in 1999, I'd agree. But I don't classify the large majority of nice players I encountered during my live stretch back then as assholes just because there were a few clowns running around.

I played Rallos Zek in 1999 as well and it wasn't that much worse than Fennin Ro was.

As for me stating that you were full of shit, how does that disqualify anything I've said? Especially when the thread is about homophobia.

P.S. I'm also mostly referring to my in-game interactions with players back then. I never had any desire to take part in forums for the game, because as with most anywhere else you go on the internet, the false sense of anonymity with zero attachments brings out the worst in otherwise nice people.

Nowhere were either of us defending the use of ethnic slurs, nor dudefagbro language as I will call it. Most young boys learn the word "fag" before they know what hetero or homo even means. It is just part of young male vernacular in the USA. It will take anywhere from 10-100 years, or never, to fully purge the language of it. Just deal with it man... that is reality. It is not homophobia, just as using his instead of her is not sexism... it is just convention/habit more than anything. I remember the old AD&D book had a short concise paragraph about using masculine pronouns vs. feminine ones due to familiarity. Now lots of writing defaults to her instead of his, because most men don't give a crap about juvenile word usage battles.

I think you need to take a look at the forest for the trees.

You are wasting a lot of time whining/protesting/complaining, all tactics of inaction. I am trying to enlighten you to possible actions you can take: opt out of rants and flames and report people who make take RnF-type comments out of RnF.

I don't know how old you are, so I will not guess. But, your actions are slightly immature. If you really just wanna go on a crusade, you have to find soldiers. P1999 is a land of limp-wristed mouse clickers... good luck! Crusades need generals that know where to take the battle... P1999 is not a good place to take an equality crusade.

Also, your original post is obnoxious, even to those of us who do not condone usage of said terms. Your energy is misdirected. Since I can not get through to you... I invoke wiser words: "Complaining does not work as a strategy. We all have finite time and energy. Any time we spend whining is unlikely to help us achieve our goals. And it won't make us happier."

If you want to put in an honest effort, instead of your OP calling people KKK members and horrible future parents, you should have said simply, "Hey can we crack down on the comments more by reporting people quickly?" If it works good, if it doesn't move on... dead horses are not for (b)eating
