Remember when everyone got exicted for EQ2?

Balance your expectations indeed.
eq2 during its first year or so was mmo heaven compared to the turgid free-to-play, buy a special unicorn helm for only 500 station cash TODAY ONLY the entire franchise has become.

What a sad waste of a great online world. It's like going to the best escort service in the world, only to walk in the door and find out that they changed their theme from hot babes to groanin' grannies

It's either going to be another failure to add to the list or that back-to-the-roots saving grace we've needed for a decade.

Hope is something else entirely..

The less hyped you are for a new game, the more you will enjoy it.

If I really thought this was going to be any good I would stop playing on p1999 to be fresh for it.

I got level 45 tonight.

I've been disappointed too many times. Still hoping tho.

The problem with so many mmos since EQ1 is that they try and either copy wow or promote RMT upgrades or cosmetic upgrades. P1999 reminds me of why EQ was so great. The bosses were just props like a title belt in Wrestling. The real heroes and villains were found in the player base based on opinion. One persons villain was anthers hero. Hell the forums on p1999 are in themselves more interesting than playing Wow or EQ2. I genuinely hope they do go for an eq1 style sandbox with a few changes here and there to the mechanics of the game. I am not hopeful as game creators these days look at a game from a business model from the start rather than creating a game out of love or enthusiasm which in turn promotes a long term interest.

Because of the grounding founded in classic through to velious I stayed in the game till VoA solely due to my guild and the friends I had made. The content was terrible on and off since luclin (I loved some expansions I hated others), but that original sandbox community building environment created a game that is still going. Without the player base squabbling and fighting over pixels those bonds would not have been formed and EQ in its current state would be long dead.

I am hopeful, but I certainly don't believe they will deliver the goods. They will be too obsessed in short term revenue and not in long term longevity. Perhaps my enthusiasm will be rekindled, but I fear Wow may still rule the roost when the dust settles[You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Sorry folks hoping to recapture 1999 EQ in a new updated package...back then the entire genre of MMORPG was niche. Low expectation passion projects.

Fast forward to 2013. Companies know the market is there and they know which crowd and business model will make them the most profit.

Not saying the game won't be fun or revitalizing but it won't be classic EQ reincarnated.
