I don't think FTE matters at all in VP.

The only thing you apparently can't do is exploit/hack and ninja-loot corpses you didn't get the EXP on.

Obviously most of this occurs on a case by case basis and relies entirely on the mood of the GM dealing with issues and their interpretation of server policies, but so are most things.

Yeah it's basically the flavor of the month. GMs were adamant about no involvement until rogean appeared after we kept wiping the opposition after they killed some random dragon. We were gonna loot it because the corpse was open. It was not a case of using an exploit but more a csr issue. But like always they made up some new rule on the fly. Their no csr in vp was a joke. It all depends on who is online and how they interpret their version of what the rules.

The dynamic rules of the server and how they are enforced is the big challenge. I do not know anything about Desmo and if he used the exploit and if he even got suspended. But if he did and got the slap on the wrist after what silken broadcasted, then it's par for the course.

Yup that incident is what I was indirectly referencing in my post. Basically the zone was 100% hands-off for months, and then we had trained them until there was something like 3 or 4 minutes on the corpse wanting to ninja-loot it all along until Rogean decided that ninja-looting was a "server" rule so applied in VP too.

Basically, every rule is open to GM interpretation and how they feel about each situation/individual.

Why so many people still play here despite seeing this happen, comboed with that bullshit "We don't answer to you post" hanging over RnF is beyond me.

I think that part of the problem is that there is no central source for what the most current rules are. Sure, GM's post some rulings/decisions and the like, and we also have the codified server rules (which are not always updated in light of the newest change), but we can all find past or present rulings that are contrary.

At the risk of soapboxing:

Whenever something new is passed down, we, as a community, need to help define it by discussing and seeking clarity from the GM's. We all know they can be scarce on the forums, but I honestly believe that the staff wants to engage us and if we stopped complaining about them in RnF and Server Chat that we might see more engagement.

Everyone here can help. When you see an inconsistent ruling, or think the rules should change, talk about it instead of fighting in RnF about it.

I've found that the most successful thing you can do is make a point, and back it up with citations. The advanced search feature on the forums is really easy to use and extremely helpful. Respectfully pointing out a crappy or inconsistent ruling is a lot more effective than capslocking in RnF. For example, (http://www.project1999.org/forums/sh...7&postcount=33) I'm sometimes poked at because I like to post a lot of links and split hairs over really trivial (and sometimes stupid) points. But I do it because its bait. By drawing out the staff with honest concerns we could get a lot more done. I understand that a lot of people are very upset over the recent rulings about punishing people who abuse IP exemptions. Everyone has an absolute right and a reason to be upset about it. It's clearly a broken situation, but no matter how much we hate or like someone, the back and forth isn't the best thing to do if you want change.

If we really want something done, we need to start having more discussions and respectful reminders about why the rules are broken and how they might be improved.
