taking pride in very broad / general attributes that you just happened into, and had nothing to do with, does strike me as somewhat... i dunno what the word really is, but, "silly" comes to mind. i do think a lot of that depends on what you really mean when you say "pride" though.
think about the things you REALLY take pride in. usually they involve you having had to overcome some kind of obstacle to accomplish something. being white, especially in america, for the most part doesn't fit this classification of pride. maybe not now, but not too long ago in this country being black or hispanic, and then being a generally successful person DEFINITELY did involve overcoming more obstacles, and would then under my classification of pride be more constituting of having pride in your ethnicity. and again these are just broad generalizations and there are all kinds of nooks and cranny's and exceptions. all people of all ethnicities face or have faced difficult obstacles in their lives and will continue to do so forever. but in general, if you're in the US you pretty much only have first world problems. and if you're in the US and you're also white, you probably don't even have those. if the hardest thing you face in any given day is getting your latte made wrong and having to study hard for an exam for 4 hours, wellllllll then there's probably not very many ppl interested in hearing about your massive, broad, sweeping, generalized racial pride. even if it isn't fair. I don't think anyone is implying that when somebody takes 'pride' in their culture they are taking credit for it. The most autistically strict definition of the word might suggest that, but I think it's more just a case of sloppy semantics.
So let's replace the word 'pride' with 'respect' and see how that pans out logically. "I have lots of respect for the legacy of european culture! I am a member of that culture, and though I didn't personally conquer the world and invent microchips, I'm glad to be a part of such a great legacy no matter how insignificant my part." And anyway if you're going to be logically consistent about bashing pride, might as well go around mocking sports fans for wearing jerseys and sportswear. You're not a member of the team, you're just a fat slob, but you sit there in the stands telling them to play defense? Proud of your favorite team? Fuck you!

But, hey. Enjoy your megalomania and magical thinking. We won! Woo!!! Go vote. You actually get to contribute to that team. It's your fault when things inevitably get fucked up, though.
